How is it, exactly, that Vandy, despite having an almost identical record, a lower RPI, lack of nonconference quality wins, etc. is ranked #19 in the AP, whereas UT is #30?

Tennessee might be ranked right now if they took care of business when they went to South Carolina..

This is fine. It just means we will be underdogs going into the tournament, and you guys all know what that means!

ESPN.com - NCB - 2006-2007 Men's College Basketball Rankings

Ok ... I don't necessarily think we're a Top 25 team, but how can we not have ANY votes in the ESPN/USA Today Poll?? Even Kentucky and Alabama have votes ... that's ridiculous.

May not be top 25, but definately should be ranked higher than Vanderbilt. The Vols dismantled them a couple of weeks ago. And usually, when a team with 20 wins and includes 3 wins over top 25 teams in its last 5 games, they get ranked.

No worries. Not being ranked is just going to make our victory over Florida tonight appear all the more impressive...

#4 SOS, #11 RPI. wins against Texas, Ok St., Memphis, Kentucky, Alabama, Vandy...

and Marist gets a vote in the ESPN/USA Today poll, but we don't.

Florida getting waxed by LSU is just as embarassing (to them) as UT getting waxed by South Carolina, and I don't hear anyone calling for the Gators to drop out of the Top Ten. Or Top Five.

The beauty of college basketball is polls dont matter. UT is a lock for the tournament and after that its all determined on the court. Its a beautiful system.

Florida is starting that process with the advantage of already being considered a top three or four team, so when they lay an egg in the right circumstances, folks are a bit more willing to give them a pass.

Now if they lose tonight and again next weekend versus Kentucky, and especially if they look bad doing it, then you will see them drop like a rock. This is the time of year the broadcasters like to jump on and off bandwagons.

It will make for good tv on sportscenter if Lunardi et al can ask "What's wrong with Florida" and then wax philosophic about how they never really were that good and they don't intimidate anymore and so they'll drop to a 3 seed and be out before the second weekend, etc., etc.

And then they'll pick up the torch for a team like Texas A&M, and remind everybody how months ago they were the smart guy and picked them. Yada. Yada. And yada. Its the same sorry refrain every year, and last year Florida was on the upswing so this year the talking heads have to bash them to get some interest going.

It will begin tonight. Vitale will look into the camera and be all sober about how Donovan is worried and has to get the team's focus back and they are in danger of letting it get away.

Yada. Yada. And yada.
