Tebow ahead of Berry, I'd agree with that. He was game changer for the Gators, but Clowney #1 overall is way overrated IMO.

Not even sure what logic they used to rank these guys. Was it value to their team, rank as compared to how they played in college, or what?

IDK. But what is ironic is whoever posted this article on the SEC Blog listed the top 5 SEC players on the list as a preview for the article, and they completely skipped Eric Berry who came in as #3 on the whole list. And then they mentioned Clowney, Tebow and 3 others...

ESPN hates us (of course)...

I hate to admit it, but there's no way Tebow isn't #1.

Clowney isn't even Top 10 IMO.

UGGGHGHGHGHG I hate saying this but you're right about Tebow. The guy is one of the top 3 greatest players in NCAA history.

Now, Clowney, I would say AT LEAST top 5 just because he is that important to USCe in their defense. Teams play around ONE guy on the DL and that means the guy is a monster over there.

Here's the thing with clowney.

I never saw him dominate and take over a game.

I've seen plenty of defensive lineman do that over the years.

I dont get what the big deal is. Truly. I think he is a very good player who has had some special moments.

But, he wasnt the suh kid from nebraska (as an example)

Clowney was a freak of nature I think his ranking was justified. If you don't believe so go back and watch the first half against UT this past season. I would have loved to have seen him at UT.

tebow is one of the most overrated players in college football history. percy harvin doesnt get nearly the attention he deserves. not to mention that i think those entire florida teams are in the nfl now and they had a top 3 defense every year. maybe we should put mccarron up there too.

I could not disagree more.

Yeah, a lot of wth in that article. No way Clowney should be number 1. Biggest laugh to me was Manti Te'o at 7. Dude was thoroughly exposed in his last college game. The ND (and Big 10) bias in media never ceases to amuse.

Clowney is really similar to Haynesworth.

When he tries, he's unstoppable. He just never tries.

Paying him a lot of money won't make it any better.

If that is your argument then Tebow was overrated Because Tebow got exposed against bama too. the talent around you can make you look a lot better than you are. Bama "exposed" a lot of great players over the past few years.

Unless he didn't try to preserve his body for when he makes money. I think that's 50/50 of why he didn't try after his Fr year, so maybe he will try 50% more in the pros

Not the totality of my argument, just a data point. I bet everyone here can rattle off a bunch of better LBs. While as a team ND had three quality wins (Oklahoma, Michigan, Stanford), I think they generally played a weak schedule and were overrated in '12 - and Te'o the Heisman candidate looked a lot better than he actually was. Seriously, given the menu of even just great LBs, Te'o the best? (He was the first LB to appear on the ESPN list.) To me just ridiculous.

Caveat - the list only goes back to 2006...
