ESPN Sportsnation Poll

I really can't argue with it. I'm still not sold on Weiss. FSU won't win another title under Bowden and no telling when he will step down. Nebraska just can't get it right for some reason. Miami will take a year or two under Shannon to see any big change.

us and miami definetely the logical choices...we haven't fallen as hard as some of the others on this list. Weiss is probably gone if his next season is no better than this one. We have the best team on this list by far IMO

Anyone else see this list and instead of first thinking "That seems reasonable" instead consider the fact that we are actually on that list; and what it says nationally about our program?

Then again, I think it would be tougher for us to go through the SEC unscathed than FSU or UM in the SEC, NU in the Big 12, or ND through their schedule.

that's a legit point but I don't think the spirit of the poll intended for people to put that much thought into it. :)

The days of "traditional powerhouses" might just be over -- or at least slowly on their way out. It seems like every year more and more no-name teams are making their way up to the top of the polls.

I think the combination of scholarship limits and the extremely large pool of talent is creating a lot of parity in college football. Parity is becoming evident a little slower in the college game than it has in the NFL, but that's due to the sheer number of players and teams involved. How much of a difference is there between the No. 10 RB and the No. 25 RB nowadays? Probably not all that much ... and they all can't go to USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, or Tennessee.

South Florida is ranked so high right now because they happen to be located in one of the most talent-rich areas of the country. Florida, Miami, and Florida State can't take everybody.

It could be too, what with the SEC/South's longtime reputation as the most diehard fans, that alot more of them are perusing and voting in such polls...skewing it a bit for the Vols in that list.

i would have expected Miami to be tops on the list, so when i saw the poll results on college football live, i was a bit surprised. but ND is a ways a way, Nebraska is a mess. FSU seems to be as stale as anyone.....

but i would have expected Miama simply because they are in the ACC a much easier road than what we'll face with the likes of FL, LSU, Aub, GA etc, etc, etc....

that said, it's nice to see it.......it would even be nicer if it came true.

I watched that yesterday. The results surprised me too. But hey, it is a internet poll. The commentator said the Vol fans must have some faith in Fulmer that others do not. First thought was that the fans have faith that Fulmer will be gone sooner then later.

Fulmer is such a good man... I wish that's all that was required to be a good football coach... But, alas, it's not. Hopefully we can keep him on at the school in some capacity (if he wants), and get a new coach...

Or what would be the best is if we made it to the SECCG, won our Bowl Game and he stepped down while he was on top (kind of).

I enjoyed the posts on this topic. One thought I have had as to the talent...it can not be hidden or "bogarted" today as it was in the 50's 60's 70's and even 80's...due primarily to video and internet access. At one time if you recruited a kid early you could hide him from others or hide others from him...you could also hide other schools interests, which came mostly thru slo mail letters. "Hell son everyone gets mail from Bama, but we are here to see you now." In todays world the tailback in Dogpatch, Ala knows all about the USC program and visa versa, has many options to go somewhere he thinks he can play immediately. Television coverage expansion has also changed the balance in recruiting, there is more balance and thus parity then ever before. I don't see this changing. With that said I give Tenn. and FSU best shot of reclaiming national championship, FSU has the edge if Bowden steps down and then bring in a hotshot, or somehow get Richt back, as Florida high school ball is loaded. Just my opinion. GO VOLS worry about one game at a time one season at a time, if we win the rest takes care of itself, kids want to play for winners.

When this poll aired last night, it was said by the analyst something to the effect of "Wow, looks like Coach Fulmer is doing well" or whatever, I didnt memorize what the guy said, but it was something that insinuated that Fulmer was gonna turn it around ect...ect.. 1. Did anybody else catch that? and

2. With all the anti-CPF stuff throughout this season, (those of you that are buying this) will you feel the same way if he stays. In other words, is this poll only legit in your eyes, IF Fulmer goes or IF he stays? Minus Fulmer, do you still buy it?...cause the guy on the ESPNU (which Im sure is an idiot according to the masses) made it sound like that he'll be there. Your thoughts?
