ESPN's Chris Low article online today. He says:

"For all of Tennessee’s talent, there were rumblings coming out of preseason camp that there were real concerns about the offensive line, and that proved true Thursday."

Huh? Other than the Chance Hall injury, what "rumblings" is he talking about? Did someone spike the orange Kool Aid?

Maybe the "rumblings" didn't fit the narrative and weren't reported.

There were only concerns at tackle by ALL accounts. There were certainly no rumblings about the OL play in general. I'm not sure how the OTs played, but our interior guys were getting manhandled and beaten consistently from the first offensive snap of the game until the last.

Chris is dealing in some revisionist history here.

2 main o-line issues we talked about during the off season were
1. How shocking it was that Richmond hadn't locked up the LT spot late into fall camp (against a guy who almost quit the team last year)
2. How Chance Hall and Jack Jones, the 2 guys who came in against UGA and finished the season strong, were being benched bc Butch starts seniority over talent
edit: forgot Hall isn't playing due to a late injury, not being benched

OuterBanks, my eyes tripped over that same line in the ESPN article, and I immediately wondered, just like you, where in heck it came from.

I remember not a single peep during fall camp, from Chris Low or any other reporter, along the lines of suspicion the offensive line was shaping up poorly. A bit of concern all around when Chance Hall was injured, naturally, and discussion of how we would cover for his absence. But nothing about the OL being suspect as a unit.

In short: rumblings my azz. If Chris Low was rumbling under his breath, he sure never let it flow down his arm into his writing hand. The BS flag has been tossed!

On the pregame radio show (with Bob and Tim and Pat Ryan) Ryan said, BEFORE the game, that our DLine had DOMINATED our OLine throughout fall camp. The guys were seemingly trying to attribute that to the strength of our DL moreso than the potential weakness of our OLine.
