ESPN reporting Tennessee is offering La. Tech's White

White read VolNation and was burnt so bad by the "he is a La Tech coach and so was Dooley" crowd that he withdrew his name imo.

I really hope we can get White. Byrd with some good recruiters would be my second choice.

I could sign off on that. I'd love the stability that Byrd would bring. He would be a great value hire. Him adding a head hunter type recruiter would ne ideal. With his extensive past with UT, you would think he could sell it to recruits/families like no other. Would be interesting to see how it played out.

Who's panicking? I made a simple statement. UT should be an attractive job, but for some reason isn't seen as one. We play in a good conference, we have top notch facilities, and we draw good crowds. All should be attractive to a coach. Yet no one seems eager to come here, other than Howland who's been getting the cold shoulder from everyone based off his poor image from his time at UCLA.

We also fire hall of fame football coaches and replace them with Lane Kiffin and sign petitions to fire coaches that make the sweet sixteen..

I can understand White's POV. With the animosity some fans demonstrated toward Martin, and the swirling rumors of lack of booster support, why tie yourself into a rebuilding process(which UT will be) without a way out? Most likely we struggele next year, so does he really want to come into a situation where people may be calling for his head in year one, creating petitions to bring back a former coach, or having boosters refusing to help him succeed? On the flipside, he should compromise and agree to a low buyout if we fire him.

And yes, realistic fans would realize next year would be a struggle, but the picture the national media has painted of UT fans is that we're all a bunch of unrealistic lunatics.

I would point out that only about 30,000 signed the petition. How many Vol fans do you think are nationwide?

Also consider that a large majority of those signing the petition was more about wanting Pearl back at Tennessee than bashing Martin. I could be wrong about this, but I doubt it.

Oh no, we had another petition after we made the sweet 16? :whistling:

White is Mr. Hart's and Mr. Cheek's guy. Both feel White would be a great asset to the university, donors, and fans. Hart is trying to lock White into a long term contract. The terms I am hearing are 1.5 Million plus incentatives over 6 years with a 3 Million buyout. I am not hearing the buyout being an issue but the salary of White's staff is. I am sure the terms will change, but I would not expect by much. I would say the chances of this deal getting done is 90%.

I am certain Mr. Hart is aware if he (Hart) does not get White, his other candidate will have leverage to squeeze extra money out of him (Hart) so I believe Hart will go ahead and spend the extra money on White and get his Number#1 coach. I would say 3:00 p.m. tomorrow is the deadline for this deal.

If Byrd was ever going to leave Belmont, he would've done so years ago.

You're probably right but I doubt that changes the perception to coaching candidates.

Read back a little further and you'll see I addressed that. Well, the petition part anyway. The Fulmer reference has no place here. Even HoFers get passed by the game eventually.

This actually makes far more sense than anything the media has reported so far.

You may be right. Only reason I think it could change is him actually having an offer to coach at Tennessee. Years ago, he did not have that chance right?

Could I see him considering a deal where he could retire in 5-6 years from his alma mater? I could.

Whether the petition was before or after makes no difference to a candidate. Before only shows how impatient the fan base is. Fulmer reference does have a place here. Shows how wacko we are. Nobody with any brains replaces a HOF coach with a Lane Kiffin. LMAO

But according to the MSM all Vol fans are raving mad lunatics with unrealistic expectations.

Some will argue for the petition, some will argue against it, but if you look at how it was reported, Vol fans as a whole were painted in a negative light by national media. And most people are sheep, so they they believe those stories to be 100% accurate.

If this is accurate, I'd feel a lot better about it getting done. If the issue is White's staff dollars, what are we talking about 75-150 grand more or so between 2-3 guys? That can't be a deal breaker, not if he is indeed your #1 guy.

The issue wasn't replacing Fulmer. He needed to be replaced. The issue was we made a bad hire.

If you don't think tv coverage of the petition while Martin's team is warming up for a sweet sixteen game is detrimental to attracting coaches, you're delusional.

Louisiana Tech journalist reporting that White has turned down the Tennessee job. Not sure how much to invest in this, but i'd say time to move on to Tyndall

https://twitter.com/b_hoss_mac

"Usually refrain from "unnamed sources" but I was just told Mike White has spurned Tennessee and will remain at Louisiana Tech."
