Gottlieb "can" be entertaining from time to time, but he is a west coast guy with OKLA ST. alma mater.

I would like to hear his rational for the VOLS not being in the top 16...probalby has more to do with his other teams he likes.

Anyone watching bball can see UT can play with anyone in the country and are most assuredly at this point a top 16 team.

I am one of the few on this board who is not a "CBP for God" backer...reasons of my own that serve no purpose appearing on this board. BUT there is no doubt the guy can coach the game of bball and can get kids to play to their potential and often times just a bit beyond.

He does, however, leave a few bball folks with a bad taste in their mouths(fans in Illinois still hate him although Sampson has taken over as #1 person to despise amongst the Illini) and we might be seeing a little bit of that out of Gottlieb. I heard him today defend Eddie Sutton ...so I think a little bias is possible.

It's probably worth pointing out that he has West Viriginia (whose only loss is to the Vols) ranked in his 16.

From his chat...

James (Knoxville): What did you see at the Xaiver game that cause you to drop UT from 12 out of your list?

Doug Gottlieb: I loved their win, but I am concerned about Lofton and even Ramar Smith...although Smith was great at the end of the X win. They were my co-16...
intruigued to see them against the Zags,.

Well, I'm also concerned about Lofton and Ramar.

However, I think it says a lot about the Vols that they're able to go on the road at a place like Xavier and pull out a gritty win without a good performance from either of those players.

When Lofton was out last year, the Vols couldn't beat South Carolina....now, if Lofton is off, UT is still good enough to beat a tournament team on the road.

Doug Gottlieb is the only analyst not to include Tennessee in his Top 16 in his vote for the ESPN Power 16.

ESPN - NCAA College Basketball Power Rankings - NCAA Basketball

Gottlieb is an idiot. Arz, Hou, WVa, Dayton ahead of UT, shows what this guy knows. I agree all four are doing well thus far but UT is clearly one of the top 10 teams in the nation. I saw all four play at least one game this year and there is no way there better than UT - maybe on a UT bad day but that's it.

I don't care if a PG can score. I want a PG who can dribble up the floor and distribute the ball. Ramar being able to penetrate and drive to the basket is nifty, but not when he dribbles it off his shoe or runs over the opposing mascot trying to do it.

The thing that has bothered me about Ramar is his continued inability to finish shots. I had hope that would be the #1 improvement for him from last year... but it still hasn't happened.

Agreed, Xavier is a good team and that was a great win for the VOLS, when it could have easily been fold up the tent time...big change from last year.

Ramar had a good game at X. (4-4 FG, 1-2 FT, 9 Pts, 1 Reb, 3 assists, 1 TO, 4 steals)

Not GREAT or anything, but a nice, solid game. Best I've seen him play all year. Especially after the technical on Pearl -- Ramar had fire in his eyes after that.

Showed some nice hustle as well.

I woud be thrilled if he played every game like that. I would be ecstatic. I just want the best PG now, not the one who has the potential to be better.

Amen to that. If you watch the replay of him diving on the floor at the end of the game ... well ... that's one of the most impressive plays I've seen this year. He was at least two steps behind the X guy going after the ball and he flew like Superman to that ball.

Shocker he didn't get called for traveling, though -- especially after Wayne did when he dove for the ball a few minutes earlier. I almost lost my mind when the ref made that call.

Man, that was SUCH a fun game to attend ... good times :)
