(ESPN)Pat Forde Article Tenn #12 All-Time

The only one in the top ten I disagree with is Florida State. They have only been relevant since the mid 80's. I dont' think that constitutes a top program of all time. Both Tennessee and Penn State's football traditions go much further back. No way would I put Florida State ahead of us or Penn State. Not if we're talking about of all time.

Miami is the same as Fla State, no history at all before Howard Schnelenberger in the 1970's. Unfortunately we get dinged by the last 9 years. Had we performed a bit better we would easily be in the top ten. If you went by wins alone since 1936 we are in the top 5, either 1 or 2 in SEC history depending on Bama infractions.
Hopefully Lane and Co will drive our stock back up...

We(and Alabama) get screwed on the numbers due to the disrespect given to southern football before the late 1950s. Undefeated seasons doesn't count for anything, and there was a pretty big gap where the Sugar Bowl didn't automatically take the SEC champ.

I still can't reconcile how you can go unscored on for an entire season and finish #2, particularly after finishing #2 and being undefeated the year before.

Undefeated in 1927, 1928, 1929, 1931, 1932, 1938, and 1939... and all we get to count are a couple(read: TWO) of bowl games, and some bonus AP points?

Like everybody else, I was very unhappy about the BCS's bowl selection system. So, I was dreaming about a Southern Football League: the idea is to cut the tie with bottom 4-5 teams in SEC, and add FSU, VT, U, and maybe other southern power houses like UTexas and OU to form the coolest football league in the world, a.k.a Confe****** College Football League.

I'm perfectly fine with the BCS's selection system. It gives the SEC a major advantage, as demonstrated by a two loss LSU team winning the NC.

One of the reasons I like college football is because of the large number of possible opponents, and the regional flavor provided by each league. I'd prefer to keep college football as far away from the NFL as possible.

no team would ever survive that league with less than two losses...but no other conference would ever be on tv either so i would take it.

Notre Dame has to join a conference. That's the end of that.

That is before re-alignment. They would be in the Northern division.

I can't get the divisions balanced out right. somebody is gonna end up with 8 teams

awful list you took the whole big ten besides indiana, and you have colorado instead of oklahoma state, no south carolina, arizona instead of arizona state, and numerous other issues...other than that, good job.

Your list includes several bottom feeders (Wash, A&M, etc.). The idea was to take the best 40 year in and year out and make a super division. There's nothing "super" about a team that didn't manage a win last year.

A little info I found while checking out teams historical records-

South Carolina has exactly one 10-win season(1984) and one 9-win season(2001) in its entire 100+ year football history.

So they're out of this new alignment.
