ESPN 'OTL' set Kiffin up for possible violation

Bama and UF posers are coming out of the woodwork to slam Kiffin---that means he's getting to them!!!

It's nice to see a Bammer admit that you'll have to resort to probation to compete with the Vols. Or, are you a Gator?

When trolls are as bad at trolling as you are, it's hard to care enough to look at your past posts.

Can anyone with any credibility on this board confirm which rival this troll supports and is thus admitting he feels his team ("we") will be on probation in five years?

Bama Troll see post 92.

only time will tell where clk will be ranked among the vol coaches...my guess not to favorably. watch and see - we will beg for the days of fulmer after this kid is done with us.

man I hope so. It would be nice to beat our rivals again

Thanks, VolDad! :hi:

Unintelligent imposters like this guy add nothing to the site, so it's great when the Mods rid us of their presence.

I can respect a Vols' fan against or concerned with our coach and staff who speaks his heart and provides insights with his criticism, or a rivals' fan who doesn't hide his loyalty and posts relevant thoughts, but reading posts from a Bammer faking as a disenchanted Vols' fan is just wasted time.

I have plenty of friends who are big ten fans and they get so frustrated when the topic of conference strength comes up. I believe most of them truly hate the SEC.

Lol they hate being inferior...Luckily all my friends are SEC fans so I don't catch that ProbLem. My only Problem is my friends are Gators lol

Time to sniff reality, Fulmerite. He is not coming back and no we will not sniff the days of Fulmer.

Is it out of the realm of possibility that Lane knew full well he could get in trouble but let it happen anyways for the WOW factor that recruit must have left with after seeing the ESPN camera crew in there during HIS visit?

I think that was the whole point of it.

I'm not saying it's some type of conspiracy, but from what i've noticed the past few years, ESPN has become so "gossipy" and controversial. When there's no Tony Romo/Jessica Simpson love drama or when Manny's not being "Manny", ESPN has to create or highlight whatever their reporters find as juicy. Lane Kiffin is definetely that source. If this coach meeting with recruits in front of a camera violation is such a big deal, why was it allowed to air? Shouldn't the office scene had been taken out during the final editing of the OTL special? Was it even 24 hours before ESPN reported the violation spawning from OTL? I'm not putting the whole blame on ESPN, but they definetely seem to be playing the part of the spoon that's stirring this all up. Maybe I'm just being over critical due to the excitement of the upcoming season...

All's well. I do agree that it was pretty shady on their part, but half of me thinks Kiffin wanted it to happen. I don't think there is any way Monte, Lane, and Gran all didn't know it was a violation, but that's my opinion.

yeah it seems pretty obvious that the coaching staff wanted this to happen IMO.

I have been thinking all a long that it was indeed a set-up. Given our history with espn, It was a set-up. I still think that our coaches knew about it and it is part of the Kiffin plan.

Kiffin definately wanted this to happen. He has a staff around him who know the rule book inside and out. They allowed ESPN to come in and now their name is out there in the media all week. Minor infraction, cheap publicity.

Just not sure what the SEC thinks about it.

These violations are so minor compared to the last couple of years, if I payed any attention to the media I would think our coach was comparing lost football games to 9/11 or pearl harbor...

I see this bs story made front page of Comcast news. So how can ESPN report a violation when it was them doing it lolol

One could argue these aren't really "violations" considering there is no form of punishment for them...

Also, I'm not sure what the deal is with them showing Lane and Eddie talking to a recruit... What am I missing?

the punishment would likely come if an institution commmitted them and didn't report them. IF the NCAA happened to investigate for major type infractions and found where secondaries were taking place and not being reported, would make the lack of institutional control take affect which is major. As long as you are reporting them to NCAA I think you are not in danger.

An institution can also control how often they release to the media that they have reported or made a secondary violation. Some schools only do annually and some may not ever tell the media.

IMO, everyone is getting up in the air and UT is releasing this information to media more than the media is out "digging it up". if you will. Although, now that we have released it so frequently, wouldn't surprise me if media started digging more.

Nobody really cares about these minor violations. This is just ESPN trying to get some readers for their website.

Not sure exactly where. But ESPN was broadcasting the story the other night regarding the SEC. Georgia has something like 6 and we had 5. Maybe somewhere on ESPN.

I was wondering about this a lot too because it seems UT is taking a lot of crap for something that seems pretty common at SEC schools. But it really isn't a situation where it's okay just because every other school is doing it just as much.

Georgia reports six secondary violations to NCAA | ajc.com

In the entire year UGA had six violations, but only three were from the football program. As secondary violations go the violations committed by UGA weren't even very serious. And only one was committed by the coaching staff.

1) was by a player accepting tickets from a friend who plays in the NFL

2) was by a booster who illegally contacted a recruit

3) a coach left a message for a recruit the coaches had spoken to the day before. and just for that the coaching staff couldn't talk to the recruit for two weeks, which can make a big difference in a close decision.

So technically UT has already committed twice as many violations in half the time as UGA last year, and 6x as many violations by the coaching staff.

No doubt, the situation has brought a lot of publicity to the program, but if it continues at this rate it will eventually do more harm than good and Kiffin would be wise to stop while he's still ahead, especially because the publicity has also brought a lot more scrutiny of the program.
