ESPN 'OTL' set Kiffin up for possible violation

If we can beat Ole Miss (I think that's our best chance at an upset) AND UGA or Bama or FL this year, then I think that a lot of people will be talking about the recruiting AND the coaching. Winning 2 big games is SOOOO crucial for this first year. I'm not expecting it or anything, I just think that if Kiffin can pull some sort of 2 team upset this year then it propels the program up the ranks quicker than expected. It would be huge.

I think even then, ESPN would either ignore us or find a way to spin it negatively. It's not really the talking heads that piss me off, but the context in which our news and what not is reported. They are trying to turn our secondary recruiting violations into some sort of hot topic. Really? It's not really that important. I can understand how these stories would appeal to LSU, Bama, Florida, USCe, Vandy, UK, or other SEC teams and recruiting rivals. But I don't think that fans out in the Pac-10 or the Big East care. I wouldn't give a crap if Rich Rod was doing this in UM, or if that new Washington coach was pulling this.

ESPN does not hate us. They spent time on one of their shows to do a full feature on the most controversial football coach this season. They are feeding the flames and has everyone talking about our program. That's not hate that's GREAT advertisement. We have not been this relevant or this talked about in a ling time. I don't think Fulmer had this
much media attention in his career. Fulmer was not a sensationalist like Lane.

I love it. Why get upset? The more the UT logo is on ESPN the better. I can guarantee that it will not last forever.

If Lane wins games this year great. If he loses them he will be a laughing stock. It's a gamble that no coach in my lifetime at UT has ever had the balls to anny up to

So there you go..............If Kiffin publicly mentioning Bryce Brown helped us land him, then Kudos to Kiff. If evertime he commits a secondary violation and it helps us, plus ZERO punnishment from the NCAA then I say great job coach!!!!!:good!:

but isn't that cheating? would you be cool with that if it was meyer or saban doing it?

Wouldn't care. Secondary is just that. UF commits them and UGA has to date committed more then UT this year.
How do we find out how many they have?
I want some hard numbers to shut the bammers and War Chickens up. Any word on how many Auburn has?

Not sure exactly where. But ESPN was broadcasting the story the other night regarding the SEC. Georgia has something like 6 and we had 5. Maybe somewhere on ESPN.

I read somewhere that UGA's athletic department had 14 last year. I also read that OU has averaged nearly 20/year for like 5 years. Not sure if those stats are reliable.

14 is probably about right. They were talking about the year. We are half way through so UGA is on tract to meet last years numbers.

They are and I don't see the Bammer or gator Nation up in arms about it.

its just interesting to see the attitude towards it when its your guy as opposed to a rival. im sure if it was meyer or saban or any other rival coach, they would be labled as a cheater by 99% of the board. thats all.

now granted, these are secondary violations, and its true that those can be commited on accident 10+ times per year by many of the major programs. but some seem to think that these violations were calculated and part of some master plan to get recruits attention around the nation. to me, thats intentionally breaking rules to gain an advantage, no?

The whole text book scandal by Bama is cheating to me. Secondary violations, I could care less about at any school It's part of the process.

I just watched the replay of OTL and it made me respect and love our coach even more. He is very calculated and it showed. Also, ESPN could have refused to show the whole recruit thing, but they didn't and they know nothing will come of it other than a secondary violation if anything. I thought it was pretty balanced actually. Great segment.
