nothing really earth shattering, good catch up reading for those that don't follow TN closely though.

"Also consider the fact that with a limited spring game, Guarantano wasn't able to run or get out of trouble the way he would in a real game."

I find this quote from the article interesting. It's clearly the prevailing thought and conventional wisdom.

However, Iirc, both of the times JG was "sacked" in the abbreviated spring game was when he tucked the ball and was trying to escape the pocket. Perhaps JG will indeed prove to be a great scrambler/runner, but I'm exercising caution until I actually see it and I don't think it wise to assume he will be until he shows it.

And, quite honestly, I think anybody who just assumes he'll have the elite running skills of Josh Dobbs is setting themselves up for disappointment.

Wow. Not sure who said JG was the "favorite" outside of some fans. This looks like another ESPN "analysis" that was more than likely drawn from reading fans on social media rather than actually investigating anything.

i don't think anyone really thinks that. rather, comparing that skill set between QD and JG, it's presumed JG is better suited for it.

but agreed, presuming he's josh dobbs, the runner, is probably exactly as you described....gonna be disappointed.

plus i don't think the offense, regardless of who the qb is, is going to be as reliant on the qb's legs as much as it was geared to do so with Dobbs.

different skill sets involved, offense will probably adjust accordingly.

Every indication is that Jones doesn't even want a QB to run as much as Dobbs did. It just so happened that running a lot made him successful and offset some of his passing issues. I don't think even Munchie Legaux who flat out couldn't throw the ball ran more than Dobbs in Jones' system.

Jones has previously said he wants a QB that distributes the ball to playmakers. That wasn't really Dobbs. Hopefully both JG and QD will be that guy.

These kids are 19 and 20 year olds. They do pointless things all the time.

Candidates to be your team's "CEO" better not do pointless things all the time... and especially if you specifically recruited them to run your system in YOUR program.

Peterman was a holdover who didn't feel he got his shot. I always thought he did and that Dobbs just outplayed him in every way. But Jones' guys... shouldn't be motivated that way.

this. i'm not worried about who the next great running qb is going to be at Tennessee.

And it might be after this year. If Mitch Trabisky can go top 5 I wouldnt be shocked if QD has a 1st round draft grade if he has a good season.

If the offensive line improves and can protect a QB for a change, Dormady will go in the 1st round.

He reminds me of Joe Flacco in terms of his build and throwing motion.

This is what comes from Ed Aschoff.

Rarely do you see a guy assigned to cover an entire conference who is so blatantly homerish about his alma mater (he's a Gator). The dude pays absolutely minimum attention to all the other programs and then mails it in when he does have to write about them.

From this article, you'd think Aschoff didn't realize Tennessee had those things called "backup quarterbacks." He certainly doesn't seem to have taken any effort to figure out the name of ours over the past TWO YEARS.

Ed Aschoff said:
No, Peyton Manning didn't step through the gates at Neyland Stadium. Quinten Dormady did.

Um, who?

Yeah, exactly.

That's one heckuva good job keeping your finger on the pulse of the entire conference there, Ed.

Dobbs ran cause the offensive line stunk.
