ESPN NCAAB Blog Write Up on Martin's Departure

we have no proven 5, proven 4, no proven pg and no proven shooters and some of you wonder why Martin went west.
After 3 yrs and a sweet 16 run, without a single transfer or lost recruit as of today (not counting yesterday's bs), we are already in worse shape than coming off of probation and worse than when Martin got here.

People that support that can go with him, and take the phony message along for the ride.

She acts like she knows UT bball, but didn't even mention that between wads of dip, we like to whistle Rocky Top with a toothless grin and burn mattresses. Classless, Tasteless article imo

UT gets rid of Martin, gets a chance to upgrade coaches and receives a buyout from Cal of 1.5 mil....where a month ago we were going to be paying to fire him. The jokes on UT?

I am staying positive on this one. I think long term this is for the best. Martin under achieved in all but the last three weeks of his tenure at UT. I am thrilled to be getting paid for a coach leaving for once.

That is the type of article that a certain class of "fan" has to seek to discredit. The writer has to be ridiculed too. Because if you can't assail the messenger, you're left with the "message" staring you right in the face. And the message ain't pretty.

As expected, the backlash to the article has been predictable.

We had no proven 5 , 4, 2 or 1 when he came. We are in better shape than what he inherited. There were no J Richs left for Martin.

I personally am happy CCM is gown. The program was on the way down under his leadership and quite frankly this is probably one of the main reasons for his departure. He new what the future held with the level of recruiting he was able to achieve. By moving to Cal he has at least three years with little pressure. At Tennessee the heat would be turned up next season and he new there was no way to avoid it except to move on. I said earlier this season that I would not follow or attend any men's basketball games until CCM was gown. I feel his departure is what is best for Tennessee. Now we need to hope Hart will make the right decision and get us a coach which has proven recruiting ability. Let the negotiation's begin

Why do you want him in a new gown so bad?

Is this guy kidding me? The joke is on Cal! UT gets 1.3 million to get a very average basketball coach and recruiter to move on! It won't take much to upgrade to a better coach and recruiter. GBO!

Im not sure which is worse: your really stupid post (multiple exclamation points every time) that highlights your complete and utter ignorance of basketball (and I suspect life) or that you got three other mouth-breathing mongoloids to agree with it.

Jesus F'n Christ when did this fan base get so f'n stupid?

Piss poor journalism. She didn't get half of her facts right. For example Martin was given 500k raise and a two year extension this year. Like I said he underachieved in all but three weeks of his tenure at UT. She acts like he was a great coach who exceeded expectations and persevered through the ncaa death penalty. This worked out for all involved.....provided Hart makes a decent hire.

I love the Vol fan base in its entirety. Don't let the hipsters fool you. It's actually one of our strengths despite being painted as liability. Coaches come and go. Vol fans are forever. You can disagree with the actions or words of some other fans, but you don't have to completely sell out our Vol family in favor of a coach who chooses to jump ship.

Ouch. Were a national joke. A laughing stock.

We are not were.

ESPN is a joke. They really don't have the story straight but some good points.

This embarrassment will soon pass.

They didn't seem to come to Dooley's Defense.

Martin is gone. Pearl is gone. All of Pearl's players are gone.

Time to hit the Reset Button. Make the right hire, fill the cub-bard and this will be a thing of the past.

He overachieved two years and met expectations one year. Made a Sweet 16 with a team not ranked. Let it go.

I hope "fans" like you don't scare off a good coach from taking the job.

That blog wreaks of ignorance.

So do you.

And it only took you 5 words to show your ignorance.

I hope not either.....but with fans like you who praise mediocrity we will cease to exist anyway......

Hall was better than Pops. Maymon better than Reese. McRae is potentially an nba player. Trae was better than the returning 2.2 pts/2 assts we have coming back and Skylar, though inconsistent, was a shooter that the D concerned themselves with and Martin hasn't shown to have recruited a shooter since he arrived.
You are welcome to your opinion. My opinion is that it's a joke that it's even in discussion in yr 4 after a sweet 16 run when compared to the roster after a coaching change and ncaa issues. Can't believe people are ok with it, but whatever.

The sad part is I think half the posters on here actually feel that way. Hipsters.....

I can't let this go.....do you really believe he exceeded expectations last year by losing in the first round of the NIT when he should have been in the NCAAs. He had the personnel to make it to the tourney in year one also.

I can help you with this......when did you become a UT fan?

There's one now. Busy little beavers.

So, shining beacon of the basketball gods, oh benevolent transcendent seeker of truth and wisdom:

When's the guy in ur avi coming back?

I assume you think he's coming back since you're still using it.

That or ur just lazy and/or stupid.

She is right about the petition making the fans look foolish, and about the coaching turnover. She is dead wrong in contending that Cuonzo didn't make enough while he was here. This is not nearly the loss to the basketball program she makes it out to be, I actually think it is a win win for the school and the coach.

Davis will probably be better than Hall and Reese close to the same. Reese and Maymon's number are about even if you are talking when Martin came. J Rich better than any Martin got he is killing McBee. Hubbs with a hurt shoulder did more than McRae healthy and will probably be a better player too. DT is about the same as Trae. Dt is a better passer and pure pg than Golden.

At this point and compared to Martin's first year
DT=TG
Hubbs> J Mac
J Rich>>>>>>McBee
Davis=Hall Hall may have a small edge but was a rising sr vs rising sophomore.
Reese=Maymon

Bball I said one year met expectations. Of course it was that year I was talking about. We didn't have Maymon and finished about where we were supposed to.

You showed me. I notice you didnt prove me wrong, though. She left out many details. I liked CCM and wanted him to stay, but he deserved respectful criticism during the season. He aslo did not deserve a new deal after last year. The petition was dumb and didnt speak for all fans. I would be content never hearing Bruce Pearl's name again. I hate that CCM is gone but I also hate how some media who know little about the situation, bash Tennessee.

This article is crap. Ignore it.

She didn't live thru the Counzo era. Amazing character guy, average coaching ability, a boring interview to listen to and an even more boring brand of basketball for 2 2/3 seasons.

If I want to watch / listen to a high character guy I'll go to church on Sunday. I watch basketball to be entertained and Martin's not that guy.

Not saying what was written is true or not but my blood is boiling that Espn allows such venom be spewed at UT, when schools cheating and paying players and worse(PSU) didnt get this harsh name calling treatment. Is this woman Linda Bensel Meyers' relative or something? UT is a joke because they expected a better product because they had seen it done? Football being thrown in the mix is BS and had to do with Hammy and people no longer employed by UT. The petition was probably not a wise move in hindsight but anyone who saw this place when Pearl was here knows that all we want is a winner and the LOVE would be 10fold to what negativity was displayed these last few months. UT is a great University and a fan base and shouldnt be condemned and labeled as a joke because of a very small portion of the fan base. This article is BS
