Interesting read. Defensive tackle is a position many analysts label as the most difficult roster spot to recruit. As a result, more and more schools are turning to the Juco ranks to fill their needs.

The most important signee for Tennessee’s Derek Dooley this past February may well have been Maurice Couch, a 6-2, 305-pound defensive tackle from Garden City (Kan.) Community College.

Couch also arrives this summer, and the Vols need an enforcer up front in the middle of that defense. They have very little depth and are undersized, although Malik Jackson played well once he moved inside last season.

Definetly one of the TOP positions of need for the VOLS...I hope we stay healthy on the DL...

Been a sore spot for the Vols for awhile now. Biggest key to the year imo. They want to have a good year then the D-line has to improve, really the whole front seven has to get a lot better.

I thought the best off season move was putting Thompson on as Dline coach.
He 's had some good success with young players at that position.

Saban did it with DT Cody.... and looks to be giving it another go with this new guy Jesse Williams (6'4", 330)...

I think you'll especially see this trend with teams that play a 3-4. Having a nose tackle beef up for a year or two after high school can totally raise his stock during a second round of recruiting.
