Vols #2

2. Tennessee also had a big Wednesday, signing No. 1 juco defensive tackle Alexis Johnson of Fort Scott (Kansas) Community College, No. 6 cornerback Desmond Henderson of Dodge City (Kansas) Community College and No. 7 receiver Jeff George of Dodge City Community College. Johnson is the biggest name in the group as the No. 14 player overall, but one SEC recruiter told me Wednesday that even though George ranks as the No. 27 player in the country, “he’s still one of the most underrated juco prospects overall.”

Early Offer: Arizona State, Baylor, Tennessee juco signing day winners - On The Trail- ESPN

I played hoops at Fort Scott JUCO in the mid 80s. Welcome my fellow Greyhound.

I know, I know....cool story bro!

I'm hoping George outperforms my expectations. Not really high on him, but I've missed on plenty of evaluations

I watched his videos, seems to run nice routes. The most impressive is the 6'6 frame and still runs a 4.4 40. This will also be our go to fade guy in the corner of the endzone.

I love how everyone is crying thinking our class is awful right now yet every time we get to a signing day we are in top 5-10. Butch may have set expectations too high in recruiting early in his tenure where people think we should be in top 5 in rankings all cycle long. It only matters where you finish folks! We won't always have elite guys commit as early as in years past!

Well lookie here we are #2 in nation on JUCO signing day hitting three key spots.

We are likely going to add elite S Nigel Warrior, elite DT Derrick Brown and elite OT Landon Dickerson down the stretch.

Butch culled a couple crappy commits and did lose one player to home St LSU and everyone freaks out.

We have 15 commits and have the same number of 4*'s as UF who has 25ish commits!

We are in perfect position for a year where we can only take 20-22.

Go Vols finish strong Butch!

I am with you all who are unsure of George. He seems to have some potential though. Looks like he has some nice hands and can adjust well to off-thrown passes. While it is noted that he runs a fast 40, he needs to work on his acceleration and route running. I think with some good coaching though he will be able to make some adjustments and could be a great contributor.

I noticed that, I wonder if his acceleration problem is from being so tall, causing his run machanics to be off at first? That's how Thorson from NU is...

Kongbo aside, we're definitely targeting a lot of JUCO players for such a small class. I think this shows Coach Jones and crew are really going for broke next year - SEC championship or bust!!!

Unfortunately, I thought Florida did very well too in JUCO signings.

USCe too but they are a rung or two below on talent.

PW on one side and 6-6 George on the other side just throw the ball up against these 5-10 or 5-11 corners in the red zone and it should be :td:BIG ORANGE:yahoo:

Jeff George reminds me of a combination of Steve Smith route running ability with Randy Moss ball skills and Tedd Ginn speed mixed with Calving Johnsons strength and the intangibles of Chris Carter. More of a blacker version of Julian Edelman. With that said his film is impressive and he has some shake for a big guy

How many years of eligibility do these guys have--2?

Jukes are hit/miss--and almost always, like all new guys, require a period of time to transition from crappy juco football to the SEC. Unless they are extremely talented....

Racist, imho. That's like sayin' he's a whiter Cris Collinsworth being 6-6 and thin, the route running ability of the whitest Eric Decker, the speed of the whitening Roger Carr. GBOrangest.
