If you are a young Bama fan, under 35 years old, it is Tennessee due to CPF's involvement in our recruiting scandal. I think the 35+ fans find Auburn the prime rival. While beating Tennessee is nice, it is Auburn I would rather win over. No disrespect intended toward anyone, but without CPF, Tennessee is just another team on our schedule.

GT, while I agree with most of your post, I hate the barners as much as any BAMA fan, the 3rd Saturday has always been a special day for me. I feel like I am like most BAMA fans, we love to hate tenn, while it is bred into us to hate the cow college. I hope CMS can continue to recruit like he has so we will continue to beat the tar out of all of them.

Well, I would like for you Bama faithful to look at something. I havent a clue as to just how many MNCs you folks are claiming nowadays. I do know that UA has 21 SEC titles.

Look up the history of UA and see how many MNCs and SEC titles UA would have IF UT hadnt beat them in a season.

There is a reason UT and UA is a rivalry. It was a rivalry before Bear. Before The General. Before Lawsuits, NCAA, Probation and Logan Young.

Its because BOTH teams bring out the best in each other. You take a win from this game and parlay it into a great season. You lose this game and there just isnt much to talk about.

As a 27 year old Tide Fan, I disagree. The only reason any rivalry of Alabama's has cooled down lately (TN, AU) is because Bama has been down for so many years. But if Bama and Auburn are both having great years, that end of the year game is still #1 on the hit list. BUT TN, even historically, is a VERY close second. Younger TN probably don't get it....yet....again, because of how down Bama has been lately, and because TN has been beating us on a regular basis..they take it for granted. Hopefully that attitude will be changing. A good mutual rivalry is a ton of fun.

So Shula can't coach huh? Well my friend, this is Shula's first year with a real ball team. His first year he came in 90 days before the season started, he had no spring practice, he was breaking in a new starting QB, and we were on probation. Last year, his starting QB, starting TB, starting FB, second string QB, second string TB ALL went down. Still on probation, and still went to a bowl. This year, he has the talent in place, he has all of his scholarships back, and he is doing a great job of recruiting. The class we're putting together, and with the promise of a few HUGE commitments that could be coming our way, we'll be just fine. So Shula's first season where he actually has a chance to win is off to a 7-0 start and he can't coach?? Well he beat Fulmer, so what does that say about your coach? :biggrin2:

*Laughing* Well...ok. Whatever.

I'm 43 and for me, the UT game has become our most intense rivalry because of PF. Even so, it was always a big game and will continue to be so long after PF has gone. Take it as a badge of honor.

Bama12- If I were you, i wouldn't get happy about a 6-3 win over a team that manages to bumble every chance they get in an important game. If anything the game showed me the relative weakness of the SEC on the national stage according to the national media. We have a couple of undefeated teams that get very little press while a 2 loss ND team gets tons of it.

Good morning all. Even I'm compelled to reply to that one. The score was 6-3 and I for one am doggone tickled! I told my wife prior to the game that a 2-0 victory would suit me just fine.

I'm 40+ and recall '71-'81 vividly. That was back in the days of a somewhat level playing field. I recall a fellow commenting on my Alabama cap at the '82 World's Fair and informing me that come October of that year, the tables would turn. I looked at him like he had lost his mind. I've since learned to take it as well if not better as I dish it.

The main point I wanted to inject was I've ALWAYS had the UTMOST respect for Tennessee fans. Understand, the same chain of mountains runs right through my yard and like it or not, we're basically cousins. Our little brothers on the plains will always play second fiddle. That bunch of transplanted yankee crackers to the east, however, are another story entirely! :D

I hope ya'll beat Notre Dame by five touchdowns.

Best Regards,

joebam

Did you all hear when the Commentator said that the first time these two schools played it ended in a tie and then 2000 fans got into a fist fight? yeah I think that goes back to the beginning and would qualify as a heated rival.

No national press?

Alabama and Penn State have been the two biggest stories of the season.

Bama got caught cheating so they had to find someone to put the blame on besides themselves. It was their own fault for cheating in the first place. How soon they forget that Spurrier also reported their cheating.

I doubt Tennessee will ever get caught if it's left up to Mike Shula to blow the whistle like Phil did. I know folks who need to be in the penitentiary. Elephants hate rats and so do I. Tennessee's "Teflon" athletic department's numerous shananagans are well heralded.

Tennessee's main concern with Bama should be the apparent fact that what didn't kill them made them stronger. Look for the bad old days to be back with vengeance.
