ESPN Gameday Package...

Dan out of curiousity is there any American football on TV in Europe??
Can you just about catch every Tennessee game on espn Europe?

I don't know about other parts of Europe, but here in Norway you get almost no US sports on TV.

I have been told that ESPN360 Europe will show the same college games that ESPN360 will show. So, yes, UT games should be on there unless they are nationally televised. It is possible that nationally televised games will be on ESPN360 Europe as well, but those are not normally on the US version if I recall correctly. I'm sure they could provide more details if emailed - they responded pretty quickly to the email I sent.

I've had Gameplan with Directv for quite sometime now. Their rates have increased over the years and I typically call them out on it, and get the orginal price I started with after very little debate. I have not received my annual "Gameday" poster I usually get in July yet, nor have I seen a bill with it listed on my statement. I'm hoping they waive it for me and I'll have a nice surpise come Saturday.

I live in Cleveland, TN. My TV is busted so I'll be watching the Vols through the internet this year. Does anyone know if Charter down here is going to blackout any games or is this package going to be worth it?

Also, how do I connect to ESPN Gameplan? Is it an application or do I log in to their website and watch a streaming video? Do I have to watch games live or can I watch them later?

Sorry for so many questions but I really hate to buy something and have no clue if it will work or if it will even be carrying my games I want to see. Thanks in advance.

ESPN Gameplan would actually be purchased through Charter because it is a television package. It would be blacked out in Cleveland, TN, though.

For computer packages, does charter provide access to ESPN360? If you don't know, just visit ESPN360.com from home and see if you can view any live events or replays of past events. If you are able to watch a game (whatever sport), then that means you have access. If you have access, then you can use this to watch the UT games on gamedays (at least those that aren't nationally televised...I'm not certain, but I think they may not show nationally televised games). Does anyone know if 360 will be showing nationally televised games? I've never had to try....

If the game is on an espn network it will be on 360. National and regional broadcasts...

Well no UT games for me this year then...(mumbles angrily at Charter) I really hoped there as a way for me to view games this year. Guess I'll have to wait until next season when I'm back in the Knoxville Area.

Thanks for the help though.

That is my understanding. If they hook it up for you and tune in to the games, then you should be able to watch it by tuning into its IP address.

I don't use a slingbox...can someone who uses it give him more details?

For nationally televised games you can often use channelsurfing.net ... that may at least get you a few games.

Gameplan is good if you are pretty far away. I have tried it twice. When I lived in Charlotte I bought it and the games were blacked out then in Atlanta the same thing. The broadcast was not very good from what I remember. I am sure it is better now but the picture looked horrid as well.

The nice thing about blackouts now is that if you are in a blackout region for a game, then almost all the time there will be a SEC affiliate station carrying the game in that area (unlike before where regional broadcasts would bite you in the but if you lived in Atlanta, for example). Games just got a whole lot easier to watch. Essentially, for those that live in the former blackout regions, ESPN Gameplan is pretty much unnecessary (except for the one pay-per-view game) and for everyone else the new SEC contract pretty much guarantees the games will be on Gameplan....sounds like win, win :).

For those interested, you can find blackout maps here once they finally put them up:

One possible way to see the games online for free is this website

ATDHE.Net - Watch Free Live Sports TV

I only found out about this site last week, so I don't know much about it, but I did watch the Eagles/Vick game last week that was not shown nationally. It might help those out of the country or without a tv which I think might be worse :). Whether TN/WKU will be available thru this site, you won't know until the day of the game.

A good example of why Gameplan is worth the money if you want to watch games other than TN games. I live in ACC land. The 3:30pm ABC game locally will be Wake @ Baylor. The other 3:30pm ABC game UGA @ Ok St will not be shown locally. If you're like me, you'd rather see UGA. Without Gameplan I couldn't. With Gameplan (see link above), I have the option.

So TN first, then UGA, with a night cap of Hokie/Bammers. Is it Saturday yet?

That's interesting. I knew that the UGA game was going to be on ABC stations that are SEC network affiliates.

Is your local ABC station not an SEC affiliate, or can they opt out of showing the SEC game and show an ACC game instead?

Locally on ABC, I will get the Wake @ Baylor game. ABC has two (maybe more) 3:30 games and I live in the heart of ACC country, so we will get the ACC game.

As far as SEC Netwok games (the 12:21 game), no local stations picked up this weekly game. They still have the Lincoln Financial ACC game of the week.

So, Gameplan is the easiest way for me, and gives me access to the 12:21 SEC game, and also an option to watch different regional ABC games that may not be broadcast locally.

NC - that is interesting. So, if ABC picks up a Vol game, then you could be in trouble. On the other hand, the CBS game you would be fine.

I just assumed that a game would either be on the SEC Network, an ESPN station, or CBS. I didn't really think about ABC and the fact that a local ABC station might show a different game. The fact that ABC can do that seems to defeat the purpose of the SEC contract, IMO...

Well, hopefully ABC won't pick up our games.....

That's why I got Gameplan, so I'm safe. I have had four seasons to figure out my best plan to see TN games, and Gameplan is it.

Also, I may be wrong, but ABC will not carry any 3:30 SEC games because of the SEC contract with CBS. CBS/s SEC games don't start until the UT/UF game that's why you see UGA on ABC this weekend.

OK, so those that live in the SEC network region are OK then, because we are on the SEC Network against WKU and on an ESPN channel against UCLA. After that, folks won't have to worry about ABC picking up a game. I'm still a little surprised that there are games that ABC can do that under the contract rules...

I'm going to the game, but I'm considering ordering Gameplan in order to tape it. It is a little frustrating because the local affiliate (my old JP station) is playing the US Open (tennis) and I can't get a black out map for GamePlan. I've been looking for it for a week.

The best part of having Gameplan is that you never have to worry about stuff like this. You get all of them. If your local affiliate doesn't the game you'd rather see, or if the one they're showing turns into a blowout, you just switch over to the other one.

It's probably not worth it just for Tennessee games, but if you're interested in college football in general, it really is worth it.

Yeah, it's just that Gameplan's regional blackouts can limit its usefulness for the folks who live in SEC country (like yourself), I would think. I go with it because it is the only way I can watch a healthy amount of SEC football. I am mainly interested in these details because I thought all SEC games (except the pay-per-view) were going to be viewable across the SEC network region, but with this ABC caveat, that isn't the case.

Surely they will be set in the next few days. I'm sure you've already seen it, but I posted a link to the blackout maps (which aren't updated yet) earlier in this thread.

The best that I can tell is that if you have a local channel showing the SEC Network (12:21--Old JP Game), then you should be fine seeing all of the UT game (with the Ohio PPV game being the exception).

TN games could end up on ESPNU, so that might be another issue if your cable/sat. company does not carry ESPNU.
