After this weekend, it's very likely we will be in the top 20 (I'm basing this off the hunch that a few top 25 teams will lose in week 1, and that I no doubts that the Vols will trounce BG)

There has already been plenty of talk about our game with OU having big implications...anyone else think Herbie and the gang will come to Knoxville??

Going with no. They'll be in Michigan for the Oregon / Michigan State game

I think they will wait to see us win a few first. If we're undefeated or have one loss going into UGA, I think that game will be on Gameday.

I've hated gameday ever since Chris Fowler made his snarky comment about trailer parks

I've always heard about this, but never heard what he said. What did he say about us? I googled it, and it doesn't tell me anything.

He described the angst of UT fans over Peyton not winning the Heisman as a "trailer park frenzy"

Our game with OU is way more intriguing than MSU and Oregon imo. Yes I know the rankings but so what?

There's actually very little chance we will rise to #20 or higher. There simply aren't that many Top 25 teams who might move down far enough for us to leapfrog them.
  • #3 Bama vs #20 Wisconsin -- If Bama loses, they won't drop low enough for us to pass. If Wisconsin loses, they will. So that's 1 spot up for us, to #24, potentially.
  • #23 Boise State vs Washington -- we could rise if Boise State loses. Another spot, to #23, potentially.
  • #15 Arizona St vs A&M -- we could benefit from Ariz St losing. So that's 3 spots for us, to #22, potentially.
  • #11 Notre Dame vs Texas -- If ND not just lost, but lost ugly, they could fall far enough for us to win a spot. Unlikely, but possible. So that's 4 spots for us, to #21, potentially.
And that's it. The cupboard is bare after that. Even if #1 OSU or #6 Auburn lose to Va Tech or Louisville, they wouldn't fall far enough for us to leapfrog them. No other Top 25 team is playing anyone with a remote chance to beat them. And we're not passing any other Top 25 team that wins their game, even if we beat the socks off BGSU. It's simply not a quality win of the type it takes to leapfrog other winners.

So, Bama has to beat Wisconsin, Boise State lose to Washington, A&M beat Arizona State, and ND lose ugly to Texas, and we get 4 spots to #21. Likelihood of all four (or even 3 of the 4) games playing out that way? Less than 50%, for sure, maybe a lot less. But it could happen.

As for GameDay coming to Knoxville even if it is #18 Oklahoma vs #21 Tennessee. Practically nil. As others have noted, there's a Top 10 match-up that weekend; that's where they'll go.

This is the only "inside info" I'll ever have. I personally know the person who schedules the personnel for all college games on espn. (I was lucky to sit at private event with majority of the hosts during last years playoff. Herbie went nuts when Ohio State won.. and Pollack is way cooler than people give him credit for) He'll definitely let me know, because he knows how much I talk about them. He doesn't actually pick the venue for Gameday. His boss does that most likely, but he'll know.
