ESPN just changed the story now, saying that Dooley is the top candidate, not that he has been hired.

This is way beyond ridiculous.

I don't know why everybody is so sure that he can't coach. I mean, what makes you think he will do any worse then kiffin? He was a recruiter for Saban when LSU won it's national Give the guy a chance.

Because Kiffin went 7-6 in the SEC and Dooley went 4-8 in the WAC.

Yeah, you can kiss Hamilton's job goodbye. This is not a good hire at all. He was trying to recreate a Bruce Pearl hire, but that's doesn't work in football.

Plus Pearl took no-name schools a round or two deep in the NCAA tournaments, not a career .500 WAC record.

News just broke on Sports center. It looks like this is legit. I don't know quite what to make of this... But I'll continue to support the program and hope for the best.

I will always support the program. I lived in Knoxville for the first 25 years of my life and graduated from UT, I have no other option. I will not, however, be wasting lots of time and money travelling to games anymore if this is true.

I agree. I too am at UT alum and I will always support my school. However, I honestly believe we can do much better than Dooley. When I first heard his name pop up I honestly thought it was a troll trying to worry us. I would much rather have Wittingham from Utah if we are going to take a coach from a mid tier program. I will always support the University of Tennessee through thick and thin. I am just like you, will not be spending as much of my hard earned dollars traveling to and from Knoxville to watch games if we do in fact hire Dooley.

All right. I've finally had enough. I've already given up hope on a great hire. I think I'm just going to let it go until the local news finally tells me who we're stuck with.

I'll hang up and listen.

No actually, I'm hanging up and I'm not even going to listen.

Louisiana Tech football coach Derek Dooley, son of legendary coach Vince Dooley, has been hired as Tennessee's new coach, sources close to the situation told ESPN on Friday.

sources...not exactly a confirmation.

"Sources close to the situation" as confirmed Muschamp, Calhoun and Cutcliffe. This "Sources" guy doesn't seem to be very reliable...

Somebody with a big pocket book over there must really, really, really have something against Kippy Brown.

Kiffin's resume coming into Knoxville: 5-15 record. Recruited/asst. for USC during title runs. Powerful father, and possible staff surrounding him.

Dooley's: 17-20, recruited/asst. for LSU during title runs. Powerfull father, and possible staff surrounding him.

I don't see why this is by any means the end of the world? Wait for week 5 next season to judge the man.

Exactly! Not saying he will be better than Kiffin, but people who are acting like this is a terrible hire are overeating. Gruden wasn't coming. SORRY!

Bye Hamilton. This is Tennessee. A University which has millions of dollars, history and tradition, and the best we can get is a 4-8 coach from the WAC conference? What a joke.
LaTech isn't exactly loaded with talent, looks like they played a great game against some heavyweight opponents like LSU and Boise St and came up short.
