6-10 just came out....Alabama is 6th...I think Texas 7th, Michigan 8th followed by florida State and Miami. It is a given now that Notre Dame is top 5. As sorry as they have for years it will be interesting to see it justified. Also said no Heismans for Alabama plus no major bowl victory since 1992. That leaves for the top five in no certain order....Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma...and Nebraska. I think those are the five. It will be interesting to see the order. I think Southern Cal will be at the top.

I didn't know they had ever been on probation....

I looked at the scoring system and probation only counts -1 or -2...I was surprised that a NC could count so much but the polar opposite(probation) could have such little emphasis in this poll

Yep, their 1984 SEC Championship was taken away due to NCAA sanctions, and the probation was in the 1990s. I can't remember what happened, but I think they almost got the NCAA death penalty for it.

6-10 is somewhat of a surprise. I still don't see with their criteria how Notre Dame is in the top 5....but it is done by ESPN. I agree that Southern Cal will be at the top...ND will surely not be better than 5.

That's a typo...there's supposed to be a decimal between the 9 and 7....

It's all for the best. Ever since Barry Sanders won it in '88, the list of Heisman Trophy winners is a who's who of mediocre at best players and NFL flops (with the exception of Eddie George, and the jury is still out on Carson Palmer and Reggie Bush.) Peyton Manning does not belong on that list.

I concur. At the time, it would have been nice.

Charles Woodson, in all fairness, is far from a mediocre NFL player.

Anyone care to venture out and say who they think will land in the top spot? With all the love shown to Southern Cal I will go with them. But purely a guess.

I think Southern Cal will also be #1. 9 to 11 National Championships....depending on what list you look at. 7 Heisman trophy winners...most tied with ND and Ohio State. May be wrong but I don't see it being the others.

notre dame has 7 heisman winners, the most consensus national championships, the #2 winning % and total amount of wins, and the most nfl players. they also have 102 winning seasons in 120 years. i don't remember all of the criteria but i'm not quite sure why people are so surprised that they are in the top 5 programs in the nation as far as prestige.

i mean even after 1936, they have 8 consensus national championships and seven heismans..

I don't think people are surprised that ND will be in the top 5 at all. I think it is just because people get sick of hearing about them all the time...even in the last how many years? That they have just been a pretty bad football team. It seems that every year that are ranked high when they should not be. But based on the criteria they deserve to be there. I saw where they are #2 in wins....and the Vols are #8.

Who cares what ESPN thinks, WE are Historicaly a TOP 5 Program, But If you go old school then yes Vandy makes the TOP 10, and so does a few other schools like Harvard and Yale! What we should do is rank the greatest college football players of all time and see where Tebow would be sloted and no most were not Heisman winners!

A stretch for sure. I would be happy to get back to being a top 15 program, at least for a while.

Its either ND or Bama as 1 or 2
3.Oklahoma
4.Michigan
But go to the wickapedia page its seems to be pretty acurate, just scroll to the bottom and the have the AP ,the 1869 , and current BCS. We all know that the AP is paid off so
thats how they be came so popular/powerful, any way the 1869 is the most acurate measuring stick, the AP is is what the Miami and Nebraska's Scream because it puts them in the top .
