You'll LOVE this. ESPN is whining that NC Women's basketball team was victim of foul disparity. Where were they when Ohio State was going to the line every 10 seconds???

Direct Quote from ESPN website:

"Yet North Carolina's Ivory Latta and Camille Little and Duke's Lindsey Harding and Alison Bales all end their college careers without NCAA titles. Some things just don't add up.

Speaking of which … Sunday's officiating is bound to get a thumbs' down from some observers. How could two evenly matched No. 1 seeds -- both with extremely athletic players -- have such a disparity in fouls called (22 for Carolina and 14 for Tennessee) and free throws shot (6-of-8 for UNC to 20-of-26 for Tennessee)?

The Tar Heels don't know, and there's not going to be any answer for them. Starters Little and LaToya Pringle fouled out, and Latta finished with four fouls. Only one Tennessee player, Sidney Spencer, had as many as four fouls."

I still don't know how Ivory Latta didn't get a technical after her layup when she flexed her biceps and yelled "Get up!" at our players...you don't get away with that kind of behavior in the men's game.

It's hysterical that that bug-eyed midget thinks she's a bodybuilder...but it should have been a technical.

Exactly! How did that Teletubby (whoever said this on the game thread, big props, so true) not get T'ed up on that?

I'm surprised Latta didn't fake another injury to claim her last few moments of fame before the demise of her career. She is so spoiled and she should have been "T" ed up for her pathetic pose. She needs to hit the gym and then show us something.:gun:

It was sweet watching her miss those desparation 3-pointers in the closing seconds.

How many of their fouls were committed against C. Parker?? I would guess a lot. Bottom line is that most of those fouls came in the 2nd half when Parker and Annosike (sp?) were driving the basket more than NC was.

I kind of felt sorry for her, by reading other people's posts I feel like I'm in the minority of people liking Latta. She's emotional, flexing, trash-talking, it makes the game more fun to watch. I like watching her play, but still did not want to see her win against UT.

If there is any bias, it's due to UConn. With ESPN in Bristol, Conn - they love the Huskies and therefore probably don't have much love for UT.

If Tyler Hansboro and Ivory Latta had a kid it would be able to see anything at any time of the day.

Im not usually one to gripe about announcers, but the announcers were pulling for NC all the way too. The guy about blew his load when NC took the lead in the second half. I also though ALOT of fouls didn't get called under the basket on NC while TN was shooting. Also the charge on Spencer that they started poo pooing about unbalanced officiating was not even close to the same as what happened on the other end of the court.

Officials in the womens game have an impossible task. If they called all of the fouls, games would last for 6 hours each. Instead, they substitute jump balls and cut the game time to about a third of that.

If the commentator was Mike Patrick, that guy would make old people eating breakfast at Hardee's exciting.

He's the only guy in broadcasting that is hitting his full vocal range on a 9 yard carry in football. In football he did the Georgia game this past year, you might rememeber.

Simply put, I wish Mike Patrick, Joe Theisman, and Joe Morgan would go to England and broadcast soccer. With Bill Rafferty doing the sidelines.

You ain't kidding.

Up until last year Patrick was the play by play announcer for ESPN's Sunday night NFL game. Sometimes I'd be out of the room and hear him going crazy and come in to see who scored and it ended up only being a 7 yard completion near mid field.

His constant "you've GOTTA be KIDDING ME" call was rather annoying too.

He's better than Charlie Steiner calling his one college football game a year at 10pm on ESPNU.

You have to actualy try to go to the bucket. How many fouls did they not call on UNC Anosike and Parker were getting killed in there. They could have shot 40 free throws.

I also love that the same web site had this to say:

Pay attention Georgetown, Florida, UCLA and Ohio State. Three of you will go home without a title. As you prepare to be gracious losers, here's a list of the most common rationalizations from last week's conversations amongst despondent fans. Please avoid them.

1. The refs favored the winner (foul shots, no foul shots, traveling and other calls).

ESPN.com: SPORTSNATION - Hey losers, no excuses

And I have seen nothing about the ratio of fouls Ohio State gets...

That's probably true.

I do miss Steiner though hosting SportsCenter. It's was usually pretty funny seeing him get tickled over something and not be able to make it through the report.

He certainly takes a care-free approach, which is actually very refreshing, but it is kind of ridiculous to talk upset when a team is up 7-0 in the first quarter, and they then go on to lose by like 30. He did this in an ESPN2 game I watched a while back. But I guess the more I think about it, that was all part of the joke to him. For him, doing a game on the duece is probably a joke, considering he does (or did at the time) Yankee games.
