I read a thread this week quoting the Sports Animal saying that ESPN was going to report something on Sunday to get Knoxville talking. Has anyone heard anything else about this? Can we confirm a report tomorrow? Just curious...

Chris Mortensen said on the Sports Page Friday that he's reporting something Sunday that will get people in Knoxville talking. He hinted that it will add a name to the search.

That's about all he said I think.

Well, my next question...when will he make the report? What time/show? Although, I will brag on our little forum here by saying that it will be on here before he has a chance to finish his segment!

Mortensen? He's ESPN's NFL guy. Does this mean that maybe we will hear something about Gruden,Cowher or Kiffen?

No Kiffen said he was not interested but Kiffin really wants the job. He will mention a Football Coach the people in the know told me.

Me, too.

I'm DVR'ing games for Buffalo, Cincy, UNC, Texas Tech - checking this site about a hundred times a day (I think that the members of this board break it before anyone - including the local media), and basically, have become obsessed with it.

We all just want it to be the best possible hire, and to get back where we should be - on top.

But it's maddening waiting.

The Chris Mortenson thing is intriguing for two reasons - first, he's the NFL guy, so that throws the NFL candidates back in the mix - but don't forget - his son either does or very recently played QB for the Razorbacks. Likely, he was there when Mazhlan was there - who is now at Tulsa, one of the best offensive teams in the nation, and their head coach (Mazhlan is the o-coordinator) is a very, very dark horse in the UT search. Probably nothing, but Mort does have some ties to be in the know in that direction.

We'll see tomorrow.

I was watching sportscenter earlier, and Greg Schiano came to mind. It was just another one of those things that crossed my mind.

There is a rumor he is going to mention Jim Schwartz, DC from the Titans as a potential candidate as HC for Tennessee.

If a new name is to be thrown in the mix, then Hamilton has not made a definite choice, which means "the people in the Know" don't know as I have suggested.

Can we designate them as PINKs to save time & space?

Just responding to the thread, not saying it is going to happen, but that is the word. That is supposedly what Mortenson is going to report. That came from Hyams show on Thursday or Friday I think.

Or maybe it's a smokescreen. Or maybe Mort. found out who it is, but I doubt it.

Since we're not going to HAVE a coach for 6 more weeks or so, a new candidate will probably surface every 1-2 weeks.
