And I have to agree.

Guys lets face it. Have you looked at our football program's record the last five years? Did you watch Dave Hart's press conference after he fired Dooley? It was going to be a tough sell.

Butch Jones will be a good fit here. Hell, the guy already BLEEDS ORANGE. He wanted this job and I admire him for that. And he has a winning record everywhere he's been! A step up from Dooley who was 17-20. Sure, the guy isn't named Jon Gruden. But he is a solid hire and I can't wait to see what he can do with OUR Vols.

Welcome to Knoxville Coach! GBO!

Having a winning record should be a given, but our previous two coaches flirted with mediocrity. Lets hope he continues his impressive track record. I believe we all want that.

Good post op

^^^^^this^^^^^ Let's give the man a chance, its not like there was a line of coaches fighting for the job, this man pulled himself out of multiple coaching searches, for the possibility of getting a call from us, he wants to be here, let's see how it pans out

ESPN is happy that we hired him so we can continue to be sh***y...ESPN still hates us.

I have to say . . . For as much as we seem to hate this, the people in the media and in coaching seem to think it's an ok move.

Of course ESPN would say this.... They got exactly what they wanted... Another 5+ years of laughing at Tennessee's mediocrity. Whoopee.

I'm with you, bud. No reason to knock a guy that turned down other jobs to be here. Franklin took over a terrible Vandy program and turned it around in three years (by way of Maryland, no less). Mullen is on the up at MSU. There is no guarantee of success, but under the same logic there is no guarantee of failure. I'm a proud UT grad and a fan for life, and I will support our team and our coach. I hate that our AD made this search look like a joke, but given all that has happened this week, being turned down by Looey and OkSt's coach, this is a solid hire. He's proven he can coach, now he needs to put together an incredible staff and prove he can recruit. If CBJ can sell the program to the recruits and the fans, he'll earn our support. GBO and welcome Coach Jones to the UT family.

To the fairweather fans out there, if you want to remain PO'd at the AD I have no problem with that. But the moment you bash a coach that turned down other opportunities to be here is the moment I stop listening to you. We don't need fans like that.

:lolabove: When we see the 2nd rate staff he assembles, the fail of this hire will really start to sink in for some of you.

Bill Parcells used a term frequently in the past, "JAG". As in, "He's a JAG." In other words, "just a guy".

We have yet another JAG as a coach. We have one as basketball coach. Sad day for UT sports.

I wish I had a crystal ball like half of our fan base seems to have. Maybe I can get one for Christmas.

This kind of stuff is meaningless. People were saying this exact same stuff when Dooley came here.

Great press conference! Orange pants!

Yada yada yada.

Listen, ESPN and the sunshine pumpers can try to spin this any way they want. The truth is that Tennessee football was at a crossroads and we made another budget hire. It's not Butch Jones' fault, it's a great opportunity for him. SEC football is currently an arms race and we bought a Red Ryder BB gun.

The thing that matters is that he wins.

People didn't want Charlie Strong or Jimbo Fisher because they couldn't "dominate in a weak conference"

This guy HAS done that in 2 different conferences.

I think he could be successful here. We just need to recruit SEC players and scale the results to match.

But they love Tyler Bray since he can throw a football 55 miles per hour. Wait.... Worley can throw at 51.... ESPN was then confused and they had to resort back to hating Tennessee.
