Sam Khan Jr.: Tennessee
Without question it's Tennessee. When you look at how the SEC East shook out and how much talent the Volunteers returned on the roster, it's easy to see why they were the favorites to win the division. Instead, they were underwhelming from the start, showing signs of what was to come in their struggles to beat Appalachian State in the season opener. Injuries hit this team hard, certainly, and that was unfortunate, but these Vols should have been better than they were. I asked at the beginning of the season, if Butch Jones and the Vols don't win the East this year, when will they? I'm still wondering and I'm also wondering if Jones is the right guy for this program long term.
I'd say it was the State of Tennessee's biggest disappointment in 2016 college football. To h**l with ESPN. It was painfully obvious against App State that we were broken and couldn't find the cure all season. It was not injuries itself; they just gave Butch an area he could point a finger at.
Couldn't agree more. Could be the most disappointing season in the past 2 decades.
This season had been hyped for 4 years by everyone, Butch included and he failed to deliver. 2017 will be another mediocre season followed by a coaching change and we're back to another rebuild.
...Could be the most disappointing season in the past 2 decades.
This season was a massive letdown. I have no idea how the team does next year or if Butch is the long term answer to restore TN to prominence. He absolutely has rebuilt TN to a much better level than where it was when he arrived.
We have some very good talent on the roster and some very good talent committed. Folks like Ty Chandler in this current class are HUGE recruiting wins because they are Top 100 players and they just make plays.
QB play will be the wildcard next year. If the QB protects the football we may surprise a lot of people and that's not a jab at Josh Dobbs as he's been a great ambassador of TN football. He has had a high# of turnovers and many at critical times. Of course, one could argue we've won more games than we've lost because of Josh so it is what it is.
Ultimately I really really hope Butch looks in the mirror and realizes he MUST change his game day coaching philosophy and LIGHTEN UP, HAVE FUN, BE AGGRESSIVE and COACH TO WIN. Start by unbuttoning that top button and go WIN BIG Butch!
Now that the regular season has come to an end, our SEC writers give their thoughts on the most disappointing aspects of the season in the SEC.
I could argue it's the biggest in college football given where we started in the ranking and where we were after 5 games into the season. UT fell harder and faster than anyone else? Probably.Bit of a misleading title baiting hopelessness and ESPN hate.

Even still, agreed on all points made.

To us fans, it's a pretty big disappointment.
ESPN didn't call the Tennessee season the biggest in college football, though.
Texas
Oregon
Notre Dame
Michigan St
all examples that media like ESPN will point to
To sum up my previous post, UT had an easier path to the playoffs than any of those other teams. That makes it worse. To us fans, it's a pretty big disappointment.

:good!: Again, as a fan, I think this season was awful.
I'm not arguing my opinion.
I'm telling you that ESPN didn't call Tennessee the biggest disappointment in all of CFB, this article is calling Tennessee the biggest disappointment in the SEC.
I've read, seen, and heard ESPN personalities describe Oregon, Mich St, ND, and Texas as bigger disappointments.
So I don't think that ESPN has said or will say that Tennessee is the biggest disappointment in CFB, which is the contrary to your somewhat misleading thread title.
