ESPN: Belk or Music City Bowl

Belk is a decent bowl. Last year's was UGA vs. Louisville. Would much prefer that (or the MC) to something like the Liberty or Birmingham bowl.

Out of the middling crop of bowls, the only one I would attend is the Liberty Bowl. I always want a reason to go to Memphis, and I have a friend who lives in walking distance to the stadium.

If the Vols lose to Mizzou, do they deserve another toilet bowl like the Belk Bowl?

From the looks of it, they expect Missouri to beat us

Belk: Vols vs Duke
Music City: Vols vs Illinois
College football bowl projections after Week 11

I would love Illinois. It looks like I'm in the minority, but unless it's a BCS bowl or thereabouts, I prefer a bowl game where we're clearly better, clearly going to rip them to shreds, and I can just enjoy it. Like the Iowa game on steroids.

9-4 over Illinois feels better than 8-5 with good bowl game! loss to Michigan.

If we end this season 5-0, I don't give a damn which bowl game we go to. As long as we finish the season off strong and win a lesser named bowl game, I feel that's what we need for next season.

Although, I thought last years bowl game vs Iowa would spark us more this season, and it didn't quite have the effect I thought it would. So I guess what I'm saying is, I have no idea how to predict the future anymore.

People always put too much weight into mid tier bowl wins. Bowl games like that are rewards to the players for a decent season. Do you think the teams going into the playoffs are having a karaoke competition, dance off, or O-line wing eating competition the week leading up to the games?

i'm hoping for a florida bowl when they beat missouri. if not, i'll take the music city bowl---good chance to party hard in nashville for 2 days and drink lots of good bourbon and listen to some good music.
Florida has nice theme parks (and sometimes warm beaches in January).
No interest in going to Charlotte, though I do hate me some Dook...

Iowa has had one hell of an easier schedule than Tennessee has.

Iowa has beaten the lower and middle tier teams that make up their schedule. UT has beaten the lower and one of the middle tier teams on our schedule. In the end playing good teams only matters when you beat them.

Also, karma dictates that we are owed a MC Bowl win, let's not forget. We were nakedly and unashamedly cheated the last time we were there.

Bowl games give you another month of practice. That's the real benefit to any football team that's not in the top 4 and playing for the NC.

Bowl games have absolutely nothing to do with the following season - just look at Iowa right now versus the struggles we've had.

As true as that may be, a lot of people took last years bowl win as something that would carry over to the next season. So it's not Absurd to think so, even thought I agree with you.

It's funny to think of what the prevailing wisdom concerning Tennessee and Iowa was coming out of that beatdown last year.

Iowa had just gotten spanked badly by a 6-6 team. Had no "quality" wins the entire season. Losing an AA lineman. A disastrous QB rotation. QB threatening to transfer. Ferentz with mounting "the game has passed him by" pressure like never in his tenure.

Who would have given a "plug nickel" for that mess? But now look at them. :eek:hmy:

As far as TN goes we know the story. But, we haven't exactly flopped. In our "5 real games", every single one has gone down to the wire. Unfortunately, we found ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in 4 of them.

If we find a way to win the last 2, then it will be an acceptable season to most, and certainly an improvement.

It's just interesting how much "momentum" is assumed after one "month delayed holiday neutral site game".

8-4 would definitely be awesome. And yeah I agree, I was just relaying what the general vibe was after last years bowl.

I definitely like the karaoke competition idea.

If we lose to Mizzou, then yes, Belk Bowl would be a good bowl destination for us. I was hoping for Miami or FSU instead of Duke though. Whatevs. I hate to admit this, but just making it to a bowl is still kind of exciting to me after the Dooley era. Sad, i know

6-6 Auburn will be a lock for the "48 Homercide Bowl" in Birmingham! aTm looking like Texas Bowl invitee.

I think we are looking at Belk, Outback and MC bowl in that order. Won't rule out TaxSlayer Part Deux!

Michigan would be an interesting matchup. They are definitely not as challenging as our 3 top-ranked opponents. Should be a good game.

If UT loses to missouri (unlikely) they'll probably get stuck in that terrible birmingham bowl in the middle of the ghetto.

Why would people pull for ****ing bowl games in their own state???It's to reward players, not punish them with a 6 hour bus ride.

Outback/Texas Bowl

And I still cant believe in year 2 people don't get the selection process...
