Erik Ainge

looked real good tonite anyone else watch the game

I did. I actually came here to post an article of interest to any quarterback considering USC (such as scroggins who now seems reinterested in UT). It is actually an article that pertains to Ainge and the reason I found that article was because I was curious as to what people think of his performance. Apparently he did well the game prior to this last one. I was very proud of him last night and he would have looked even better had his receivers not dropped two major passes right through their hands on that final drive. Anyways, here is the link. Probably one of my best contributions to this site to date!

I would like to see Ainge play against the Ravens' defense so we could squash this debate.

I wish him well.

Right, because NFL coaches never make mistakes, like drafting Ryan Leaf #2, or David Carr #1, or Jamarcus Russell #1, or Tim Couch #1.

Or starting Drew Bledsoe over Tom Brady.

Right now the Lions are looking absolutely brilliant for drafting Stafford #1 overall. As are all of the so-called draft "experts" that had him ranked either #1 or in their top five.

Looks like utvolpj might have not really been thinking it through before he made those comments.

If NFL coaches and GMs salaries had anything to do with their ability to predict future success of players, then the word "bust" would never be used in the NFL except for a play that goes horribly wrong.

If history has shown us anything it's that the only "sure thing" is that there is never a "sure thing"...especially when you're talking about the QB position. Tom Brady wasn't all that in college. Hell, he wasn't even a 3 star prospect coming out of high school. And I'm pretty sure he went late in the draft. But, put him with a team that is conducive to his style and surround him with exceptional backs and receivers and the best line in football, tackle-to-tackle, and voila! You have arguably the best QB in the game, today.

besides Belichick how many of the coaches are still with those teams? Not looking it up but I'm betting on 'not many'.

Baker, the problem with your argument is that it makes too much sense and is based too much on logic and common sense and facts, none of which people who base their claims on nothing but the sound of their own voice, have any interest in.

Logic and common sense apparently says there is a coaching conspiracy to keep Ainge at third string even though he's clearly the best QB on the team.

The Jets are actually very high on Ainge. He'll never be a starter, but should have a good career as a backup and make some decent bank. Gotta be the easiest paycheck in the world.

*cough* Kicker!! *cough*

Stop with the name calling --you bos. I will be happy to match wits with you ANYDAY. "Light the world on fire"---ROTF----:eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

Did you even read my post? I said he's NOT going to light the world on fire.

With your genius comprehension I wouldn't being challenging anyone's wits.

I'll leave you guys in here to talk about how Ainge is the next Brady. What a joke. I'm done with this thread.

Freeman will be a starter in the near future IMO.

John Lynch who is doing color for the Buccaneers pre season games basically said Freeman should get the starting nod over the other QB's. He has more talent and is a giant -- 6'6 and what 240 or something like it.

Each year there are 256 players selected in the Draft. Sure there is always the exception to the rule. But, I would be willing to bet that they get it right far more than they get it wrong. Otherwise, they would not be getting those big salaries very long.

Just a thought, but I wonder where Ainge would be at right now had Cutcliffe been his OC all four years.

This article contains some valid material that relates both to recruiting and former QB Eric Ainge. I watched him against the Ravens last night and had his receivers performed like professional receivers, he would probably be heavily considered in the race. He looked great.

So, I looked for some material out there and found an article that not only considers the same idea, but continues on to discuss USC's last three quarterbacks that are now in the NFL. I think this article should be put under the noses of those with the likes of Scroggins, as getting players to the NFL is one thing. Their competing in the NFL is a bigger thing. Eventually, NFL scouts will look less to that school if the players the school is putting into the NFL do not perform.

That brings up another question. Is this concept of getting players ready for the NFL by playing a prostyle offense mostly a marketing gimmic that former NFL coaches in the college ranks are churning out? Is it a fad? Are we going to HEAR a lot more of it? Will it prove to be any more affective than what UT has been at times (let's face it, we've cranked out a lot of NFL players).

Personally, I think right now Kiffin is marketing what we have. I hope he has a followup plan though. Right now we are offering Freshman the chance to play early AND the ability to coach them into the NFL. I guess eventually they WILL get into the NFL and then he can talk track record and Ws and recruit top talent simply based on that. THEN, he will HOPEFULLY be able to talk about their track record in the NFL. In building a program similar to USC's... maybe that will be what separates us from them... well along with those Rocky Mountains.

PS... OK... great is an overstatement. He looked good and better than either of the other quarterbacks.

And you don’t think playing against a 3rd string defense had anything to do with that?

Did you honestly think that he would convert on the 2 point attempt? After watching him for years, I was not optimistic. IMO .... he was a good QB but always came up a little short.

The Jets do not have a starting quarterback on their roster, Ainge appears more competent than Clemens, yet he is not passing him on the depth chart. Furthermore the head office will not want to look like a fool and let Sanchez sit on the side line while the third string kid is taking first string snaps. Ainge is fifth round money which settles the argument.

Oh, I'm sure they get it right more than they get it wrong. I'm pretty sure that you or I could pick some good players if we were getting paid big money to do so. The first 3 or 4 rounds are not that difficult. Keep in mind that there is a committee that is evaluating players. They have scouts to whittle down the prospects and they watch thousands of hours of film, cumulative. I still can't figure out why the Titans picked Vince Young other than because Bud Adams told them to.

Of those 256 players that are drafted every year, I wonder how many are there after 2 years. I also wonder what percentage of first and second round players don't live up to their expectations. Not trying to start an internet argument...just thinking out loud, if you will. I believe Detroit has screwed the pooch in drafting and giving Stafford what they gave him...but Detroit has a history of pooch-screwing.

Using this guy's logic, there should be quarterbacks lining up to go to Tulane. They've had 3 starting qbs drafted in the last 10 years...

Based on your response, I stand vindicated in my assessment of your aptitude. The standard phrase is "SET the world on fire"--as in --you light a match and you set a fire. Normal protocol for issuing a challenge would be "I challenge you to a debate"---not "I challenge your ears, eyes, clothes, WITS, ect." "I question your ability to comprehend" would be more appropriate----which I do. Just don't call posters MORONS, especially those superior to you. :)

You wasted a lot of time typing that post. All it did was make you look more stupid.

And I lol at you saying you're superior to me. You don't know me. If that helps you sleep better at night, by all means keep thinking it.

I don't think this comes as a suprise:

"The New York Jets have named rookie Mark Sanchez their starter for the 2009 season, NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora confirms.

The team had no official comment, but head coach Rex Ryan and Sanchez are expected to appear at separate regularly scheduled press conferences starting at 2 p.m. ET.

The move comes as a little bit of a surprise considering Sanchez is coming off a rough preseason outing on Monday against the Baltimore Ravens, in which he completed just 3-of-8 passes for 43 yards and was harassed all night. He threw an interception on the opening series that was returned for a touchdown. He finished his outing by tossing a TD pass to running back Leon Washington, but that was after the Ravens had removed most of their starters.

“You saw his eyes get big, and he was jumping around in the pocket,” Ravens LB Ray Lewis said after the game. “Bottom line: We gave a lot of looks and disguises and we confused him a little bit.”

Sanchez could have won the starting job by default. His challenger, Kellen Clemens, has had a rough preseason. On Monday night, Clemens was 5-of-10 for 60 yards. Like Sanchez, he had an interception returned for a touchdown and threw a TD pass."

I think Ainge could start for a couple of NFL teams right now.
1. Browns
2. 49ers
3. Rams
4. Seahawks.
* I personally think hes better than Romo as well.
