I live on the West Coast and hadn't heard Erik before...

When asked about Lane Kiffin, Erik said:
"We were taken to prom, and then he took us to second base, but they left with a hotter girl.... He left with a girl who had bigger boobs... and we knew that.... We weren't mad that Lane left, we were mad that we got Derek Dooley"

When asked about Arian Foster, Erik said
- Arian was his best friend while Erik was at college
- Erik paid for Arians meals and gas
- Erik thinks Arian is lying
- Erik thinks that Arian is just trying to establish a platform
- Erik thinks Arian is weird because he is smart

When asked about Hounddogs and what it is like (Petros is obsessed with Hounddogs and always plays the soundbite of the woman from Hounddogs saying she will send Lane Kiffin shirts to Haiti for the children), Erik Said:

"It doesn't smell like beer and cheese"

My question to everyone - is this Erik being Erik?

PS - before he came on, the background music was a slow, grunge song talking about getting stoned. I picked up on the irony.

"We weren't mad that Lane left, we were made that we got Derek Dooley"

:lolabove:

I never blamed LK if USC was truly his dream job.... he was a west coast guy who wanted to go home... I got that...

LK had nothing to do with us getting Dooley...

It was always "The way he left" kinda left us in the middle of the date .....to use Eric's analogy

<Thinks for a minute> No, I was LIVID when Kiffin bolted for USC.

I can see both perspectives. I personally understood why he left, but couldn't help feeling like we were second best. That didn't set well with my way of thinking because UT is the only school IMO.

I do like Ainge's take on things though. Kinda like not giving Kiffin the pleasure of thinking we needed him.

I wonder if Erik speaks pterodactyl? Would explain why he and Foster were close when they were at UT.

Seriously, who do you believe? One is a recovering drug addict, one has consistently shown a flair for the dramatic. I would lean more toward believing Ainge because if Foster's accusations were true, I think he would have spoken out years ago. He loves the attention. I'm not saying we haven't broken rules over the years, all teams do, I just don't buy what Foster is selling. Since leaving, he's shown no love for his Alma Mater, so I just don't see him waiting this long to reveal the "truth".

Gotta agree on Lane Kiffin.

I don't resent him for leaving for USC. Rather, I resent Hamilton for hiring him to begin with.

Hamilton's coaching searches were a lot like Michael Jordan's drafts with the Wizards. Both seemed obsessed with the idea of finding some young, untested gem before everyone else. That rarely works out.

There's a reason why companies don't look for 19 year old college students with no experience to be their next CEO. Experience and track records matter. Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley were the college football equivalents of Kwame Brown; guys with no record who were sold on nothing other then their "upside."

Unless someone can honestly say they were against the hire from the beginning, it would hypocritical for anyone to resent Hamilton for the hire. When Kiffin was hired, pretty much everyone I knew, including myself, was very excited about it. We also loved the brashness and the "swagger" that he brought. He made everyone excited about the future of our program and gave us hope. He was the anti Fulmer and most Vol fans that I knew at the time WANTED that.

Likewise, everyone loved Dooley when he was hired because he was the anti-Kiffin.

I hated the Kiffin hire. I didn't like the Dooley hire, but then Justin Hunter committed, he got Wilcox to come and swung Da'rick Rogers to switch from Georgia, so I actually thought things would be okay.

Needless to say, I resent Hamilton quite a bit.

That and the whole dissing UT traditions and wanting to make UT the USC of the East thingy..... that sucked too.

I was not excited at all. I celebrated when he left.

Yeah. I was hesitant about Dooley. First year was decent (6-6 with bowl game that should have been a 7-6 season). 2011 recruiting was good. Not great, but good.

6 OL (3 4*)
3 LB (2 4*)
7 DB (4 4*)
2 WR (2 4*)
3 RB (1 4*)
3 DT (1 4*)

Then you pull back the veneer and things start getting explained. Lance Thompson and Charlie Baggett were the guys who recruited a lot of those guys (and also DR/JH). They both left after Year 1. 2012 recruiting was abysmal. 2013 recruiting was even worse until Jones stepped in.

However, in 2010-2011, things weren't looking that bad. I never expected Dooley to actually succeed, but I thought he'd at least stock the shelf (and if he recruiting in 12-13 like he did in 11 we'd be in good shape) but he failed magnificently at everything he did as a HFC here. I thought he'd be like a Zook or a Shula for us.

I'll admit it: I wasn't for the Dooley hire but in 2010 I wasn't against it as the season and recruiting shaped up.

I was angry at Kiffin because of the timing mainly. It was right before signing day and he was only here for 1 season. Inn the end I truly believe we're better off without him. Hes has had a future NFL player at every position the last couple of years and has a terrible team. How's that even possible. If he'd have stayed here he wouldn't have had nearly as much to work with. We are lucky to have butch, we just need to get some more talent to Knoxville

Erik Ainge is sort of a doofus IMO.....

No Way USC has bigger boobs then Vol Country, we're home to Dolly Parton for ****'s sake. Erik stop drinking....you went too far.

To take this analogy a little further, Kiffin left us in the middle of "nowhere" and without any clothes or money to catch a cab or bus home.

Kiffin may have left for the "Hotter Chick" but she is turning out to be like the psycho in Fatal Attraction! :)
