Erik Ainge has sore pinky

If we lose to cal, it's going to be from more than a sore pinky!

you never know, football is a game of inches.

of course we are blowing this out of proportion, but with no UT football in 8 months, the excitement is so high will cause us all to go crazy over nothing :banghead2:

Question???

As has been mentioned in this thread the pinky finger does not come into play much when throwing the football but it does come into play on the snap under center. If EA's finger is still a problem come game time there should be more use of the shotgun formation to alleviate some of the risk of re-injury. If the Vols are using the shotgun more, maybe even exclusively, what effect does it have on the running game?

Yeah, I was acknowledging the pain in taking the snap earlier....but wasn't really thinking about more shotgun formations as a result. As for that, we'll just have to see how he heals up over the next few days.

I don't think Fulmer would have even brought Cromptons name up if there wasn't a real possibility of that happening. The fact is,EA may even start to see how he plays then trun it over to Crompton if he's bothered by it too much.I'd be a lot more concerned if we were playing Florida Saturday to be honest.

They could deaden it. I have had a lot of jammed fingers from playing basketball and the only real problem (in my experience anyway) is the pain.

Crompton getting more snaps this week is just precautionary I'm sure.

Am sure the swelling will be gone by Saturday. Still four days away. He will be fine I think for both taking snaps and shotgun.

I don't like the sound of Fulmer saying "expects" instead of "will"...

Did anyone ever stop to wonder if that was just Fulmers way of making Cal get a false dose of confidence? It’s really quite clever when you think about it. If not, and Fulmer was genuine in his assessment of the situation, this could be serious. An injury to your starting QB the week leading up to the game is no mater to take lightly, especially when the oponent is the #12 team in the nation. For everyone’s sake I would like to see the Vols as near to 100% as possible. A win without Ainge just wouldn’t be as sweet, knowing the endless excuses from Vol fans/pundits would follow any Cal victory. Let us all hope he recovers and is 100% come Saturday.

Yes we did. And even if it isn't am sure he'll be 100% by Saturday. If not, then it's more serious then a stubbed pinky.

If anything I'd just consider this some mind games by Fulmer. "Oh no, our senior dropback qb might not play. Cal better prepare a little in case our sophmore that likes to run plays."

No way a jammed pinky should keep him out of a game 5 days from now.

I'm thinking the same thing.

If Ainge is hurt then it will just add insult to injury when we beat cal with our second string QB.

John Parker Wilson said that he would cut off his pinky finger and play before he would let a jammed one keep him on the sidelines. You've gotta love his toughness.

so, a few days ago, everyone here was so confident UT would stomp Cal mercilessly by running the ball down their weak front seven's throat. ... but now you are worrying because our passing threat has taken a hit? it's funny to see the cocky "CAL HAS NO CHANCE" posters go into shock.

i've said all along that this would be a tough game. i still think ainge starts, but maybe a bunch of the posters here are just a bit more worried about the game than they are letting on.

That's cause he's an inbred who was born with 2 pinkys. :p

Now that my nerves a settling down a little--I'm thinking it might be great to beat Cal with Crompton/Stevens. It would give the next few opponents several more things to prepare for.
