The ND game and his injury right before Half..........2004 Season......IMO he has not thrown the ball down field as much nor has he displayed the confidence on the rush he once had.......We all know that we had the Rick Clausen fiasco the next year along with Randy Sanders departure.........but if you pinpoint it......He has not thrown the ball downfield as much................

In my opinion, the downfall of the Tennessee program in the last few years was the result of that bone-headed injury.

Eh, I disagree. I think he hasn't been the same since the ankle injury in Columbia circa October 2006.

He wasn't too impressive the few weeks before the ND game. Remember, he was benched in the middle of the USC game that year and Scheaffer ended up throwing a bomb that set up a touchdown that stopped the bleeding and we managed to comeback and pull that one out of the fire. And even in that ND game of 2004, he wasn't lighting it up too much then, either.

I think Cut tries to rely too much on Ainge and expects him to do too much.

I think UT would be more successful ran the ball more. It woule help stop Ainge from pressing and let the game come to him.

Here's Ainge's stats on the year:

Completion % 64.5
TD's 20
INT 5
INT % 1.28

He's rated 42nd in passing efficiency but if you look at the people ahead of him it's clearly a bizarre formula.

For example Teel of Rutgers is rated 25th but his numbers are:

Completion % 56.85
TD's 19
INT's 12
INT % 4.11

Nuts! The only stats where Teel out does Ainge is Yards per attempt - Teel has 8.84 while Ainge has 6.42.

In my book, Ainge has been very solid this year and the only thing we have keeping us in many games.

Here's another example, Rudy Carpenter of Arizona St. is the 11th rated passer in the NCAA.

His yards per attempt is 6.78 (Ainge 6.42). His completion % is slightly below Ainge's. He has the same # of TD's but 3 more int's. Finally, he has only 17 more total passing yards than Ainge!

ND game doesn't have anything to do with EA in 2007. But you are right on the money when you bring up confidence. EA is not the same QB that played in the Cal game.......he has lost his confidence. And thats everything, just think about it. Also, if you haven't noticed he doesn't trust any WR except for Lucas Taylor. With teams scheming to stop Chris Brown and Taylor not beign 100% he doesn't have any other choices in the passing game.

He threw a TD pass to Rogers and one to Briscoe in the Vandy game...and seven different Vols caught passes in that game.

14 different vols have caught passes from Ainge this year.

9 vols have caught TD passes (I think Crompton has 2 TD passes so it maybe only 8 for Ainge).

EA has not thrown the ball down the field effectively since who knows..........I think we all saw a freshman that had no fears his first year..........We built on that and he didn't..........His numbers are good as all UT QBs are...............The changes were for the bests offensively.....time will tell Sanders to Cut.....His Cal Game was great last year but I do not remember a bomb in that game........I don't remember the last time he threw one on a tier one team........... He has managed the NO Huddle very well much to his credit.........

And who is he suppossed to be throwing these bombs to?

Taylor has been a great surprise, but Austin and Briscoe are average at best. We don't have a downfield threat.

What more is he going to do with the wr's he has?

He said last year...

thanks for clearing that up.........I am trying to remember beyond his Freshman season.........The only game I can remember was the GA Game Last year.....I did say tier One.....and I am not sure if it was them or AL..... Forget I did say Tier one Team.........Well last year we had receivers and Crompton threw one against LSU............

The year isn't over yet... maybe we'll see a bomb at the most opportune time. Very good chance it would take someone by surprise... cause it sure as heck ain't on the film. I loved the pump and go to Taylor against Ark. That would have been an easy TD if not for the hold. That play will work again with as many screens as we run.

You're right. But its all been "dink and dunk" nothing down field.

I think the Vols should take more shots downfield (20-30 yards) but bombs are overrated. There is no TO or Moss on this team to throw deep to. Swain wasn't a deep threat and Bret Smith was inconsistent. Heck so was Meachem until last year.

to me right now a bomb is a 20 or 30 yard pass......Slant pattern or something go deep once or twice you do not have to complete the pass to open it up a little bit..................
