Eric Striker vs. Jalen Hurd: Who wins the individual Duel?

perine was a TRUE FRESHMAN. let that sink in bro.
1700 yds 21 tds. :loco:

He was the featured back and had a very solid OL to run behind. Hurd was splitting carries with a senior RB behind the worst OL in UT's history. There's a difference in those scenarios no matter how you try to spin it "bro".

he wasnt the starter last year, have you blocked that game out. keith ford got most of the carries foe the first 3 games, he had 2 tds on you guys last year. not spinning anything. just facts. perine did most of that in 9 games as the starter and still split carries with alex ross.

First, Big12 is not a LOS league.

Second, it is yet to be seen how much success OU will have running the ball out of their new offense.

If they are able to run the ball I think they win the game.

Does anyone remember the "trajectory" line Butch gave at SEC media days? We all know what UTs trajectory is looking like. Heres OU from last year:

Started season 4 in the nation. Finished season 8-5 and got shalacked by Clemson in their bowl. #15 recrtuiting class in '15. Bad year? No. Would I rather be in our possition than theirs? Yes.

hurd only had 899 yds rushing and 5 tds last year?? wow! the way you guys gush over him i thought he was stud.....btw our back had 1700 yds and 21 tds. perine>hurd.

Perine is a great back, but he did most of his damage against garbage teams. And, while all backs do this, his was disproportionately split. If Oklahoma played real teams, with real defenses, his numbers would look much more human. And this was, again, with his NFL caliber O-line last year. Now he is running behind a very weak, and inexperienced, line.

Here are the rushing defense rankings of teams that Perine ran for at least 100 yards and 5 YPC against: West Virginia - 65th; Iowa State - 123rd; Texas Tech - 124th ; Kansas - 106th; Oklahoma State - 59th ; Clemson - 5th.

Only one school was in the top 50, two in the top 60. And the average was 80.3.

Here's some extra info. Here are his rushing averages against top 70 defenses: Perine: 104 carries, 460 yards, 4.42 YPC. To put it in perspective (and to show that not all "elite" backs thrive solely by beating up on bad teams, here are Chubb's numbers against top 70 run defenses: 181 carries, 1142 yards, 6.31 YPC.

Edit: Against top 70 defenses, Hurd ran 115 times for 555 yards. That's more carries, more yards, and a higher YPC (4.82). And, that is WHILE running behind a MUCH WORSE O-line. So, against good defenses, Hurd was better last year than Perine. And, of the "top 70" rushing defenses that each played, here is the average rankings: Perine - 31.8; Hurd - 29.5. So, the "good" teams that Hurd played had, on average, a higher ranked run defense than the "good" teams that Perine played. Point Hurd.

And, again, Hurd had a porous o-line that is now improved, and Perine had a fantastic O-line that has now disappeared. Moreover, Hurd added over 20 lbs of muscle, while not losing any speed. Point Thundering Hurd.

he was a true freshman last year, those are his numbers. 1700 yds 21 tds , while splitting carries with ford, and ross

It is worth mentioning that those other backs (and all players on Okahoma's roster) had comparable stats. That suggests that the strength did not lie in Perine, but in the o-line, the system, and the level of competition.

Oklahoma's rushing YPC: 6.1 Perine: 6.5
Heck, Ross even had more YPC than Perine - 6.76.

Hurd had 1.24 more than our 2nd back, and 1.8 more than our 3rd. And, despite having Dobbs in the backfield, he still averaged 1.1 YPC more than the team average.

People are blowing Perine out of proportion. If Ross had started and had all of Perine's carries, he could have had an equal or better year. People are giving him credit for a great oline and a bad schedule. He doesn't eclipse 1300 yards this year.

Stop trying to use facts. You are wasting your breath with these OU fans.

Plus they're probably too busy to read it because they are out looking for new mattresses because Stoops is going to **** the bed again...

Essentially missed 2 games last year. Was a true freshman behind arguably the worst OL in college football history....you saw it when we played in Norman.

Also led all SEC RBs in receptions last year with 35...1,120 total yards from scrimmage, while, again, missing 2 full games. Is he the greatest running back in school history or the best RB in the SEC right now? No. But he's very good, runs with very good power and aggression and has very good speed for a guy 6'4 242

Don't remember that play, but do remember Striker tackling him many times.

I've got a replay of Perine absolutely owning the DE on the 4th and 1 TD carry by Mayfield.

All the recruits saw it and commented on it said Striker got decleated by Hurd, and I rarely heard Strikers name over the PA did hear Diamond and Thomas a lot

6 tackles, 1.5 for a loss (total 8 yards), 1 QB hurry.

It looked as if Tenn schemed to keep him out of the play, and the result was Davonte Bond (#23) had his best game as a Sooner.
