Eric Striker vs. Jalen Hurd: Who wins the individual Duel?

If Tennessee pulls guards and centers that speed want be worth a damn. Athletic size > speed. If Tennessee sweeps and dives it will be a hat on a hat and Hurd and Kamara will take advantage of that.

We'll that's why we play the game :) First man to the "spot" on those plays wins. IMHO.

Thanks, Freak!

Guys & gals, this is why I hope we do see the two meet up at least once or twice while Hurd is in pass pro mode. :)

Match these dominating moves by Jalen with that dominating clip of Eric, and it will be explosive. Add in Striker's recent trash talk, and it will be electric!

Ppl don't run outside on our defenses as a general rule. Not much option either. Too much speed side line to side line. They get sniffed out and stretched out to the sidelines and pushed out of bounds.

That doesn't mean you wont break one. It's just something we defend really well so ppl stay away from it.

That speed can work against you as well. If they are overly aggressive a mobile QB could present some problems for your D.

Correct. The reason why sooner nation loathes running QB's. We have to contain more and crash less. Or get gouged for chunks of yards.

But not blitzing is like not breathing. Its part of the defense.

I'm really anxious to see how we scheme your offense.

Didn't we already live through this with Florida last year?

Didn't end well. . .

I'm failing to see the logic in the OP. Striker is an undersized DE or slightly undersized Outside LB (depending on the defense OU are in) who is good at rushing the QB, covering underneath routes and running down a RB on a sweep or other outside the tackle runs.

As I've heard VN describe Hurd, he is the second coming of Earl Campbell. He runs over anything in his way and it requires 4 tacklers to get him down.

The typical matchup will be Hurd getting past the DL (Tapper, Romar, Dimon), and then taking on the inside LBs--Evans and Alexander. Since it is going to take 4 of those 5 to get him down, hopefully OU can shed some blocks.

The only times when Striker and Hurd will be meeting up would be when Hurd is back pass blocking (and if you are relying on Hurd as your secret weapon pass blocker, Tenn is in trouble), when Striker crashes down to help plug the middle and be one of the 4 tackling Hurd, or if Hurd goes out on a screen to Striker's side. All in all, not really that much contact between the two.

Last year, OU shut down the Vol running game until the game was all but put away. That allowed Striker and Tapper to have a party 8 yards in the backfield every other play. The big question this year is can the Sooners do that again, or is the supposedly much improved OL better equipped to open up holes.

So the OP's point about the Hurd - Striker matchup is really not that intriguing at all. Bigger question is are the ILBs making tackles on RBs, or are the safeties, and therefore how much does that open the passing game as well.
I guess you fail to see the logic because you're complicating a simple scenario being addressed by OP. I'll lighten that load for ya', little fella'. A certain number of times that Striker fella' and Mister Hurd are gona' collide...one-on-one. At game's end, which one of them's gona' win the most of those encounters? My vote's for Mister Hurd.

Congratulations, son. You have already begun to embarrass yourself in only your third post on Vol Nation; that may constitute a new land speed record. Perhaps it is past your bedtime. Run along and let the grownups discuss this matchup.

Jales Hurd is gonna truck Eric Striker..... more than once.

Dude better tighten his jockstrap cause he is about to get slapped around like a rented red headed step child!!

Hurd needs to line up and say all night long baby - me and you, all night long and then flat out lay the wood!!!

I have already admitted to, in this instance, using a slightly misleading title as a hook for discussion of three principal factors that, in my opinion, will mitigate the damage that Striker inflicts. Again, if he repeats as the same kind of single-handed wrecking ball that he was last year, my hat's off to him.

I'm not going to get excited and beat my chest over falling forward when being tackled. If dude is good tackler it doesn't matter about a 20lb weight difference.

Always good to fall forward but nothing very notable. Most bigger backs tend to do so.

Yeah, I saw that quote about "falling forward." It was a misused cliche. Jalen Hurd doesn't fall forward...he sheds tackles and carries scrums 5-10 yards up field. This goes well beyond gravity.

OU DE Striker when asked if he knows who Alvin Kamara is: "I'm aware of Hurd.. I don't think nothing special about him."

Vols 41-13. It won't really even be a game come mid 2nd quarter. If you don't believe me you're wrong.

He was a Freshman splitting reps with an established, if underwhelming, Senior. What were Pee-rines numbers as a frosh....all things being equal?

Perine only had 33 yards rushing and 1 td last week?? wow! the way you guys gush over him i thought he was a stud...btw our back had 123 yards and 3 tds. hurd >> perine.

Let's live in 2015, shall we?

p.s. Kamara 144 yds, 2 TDs >> Mixon 27 yds, 0 TDs. In case you wanted to talk 2nd running backs, as well.
