Eric Gray commits to Oklahoma

Interesting bit of info there for sure. I suspect, and alway have, that Stoops knew the word on Mixon was coming down soon and he needed to make big moves in order to stay in good graces with money folks (ie, look, I’m even firing my favorite qb, a kid that got me to where I am, because I’m capable of making hard decisions so please don’t fire me). Let’s also not forget Lincoln Riley was the OC then took over as HC. I still think the Mixon video had everything to do with the turnover at OK including Heupel. Could also be that Heupel wanted to kick Mixon off the team and Stoops wouldn’t allow. I think it’s all related. Just doesn’t make sense timing and all, especially as young as Stoops was/is.

I honestly don't think it had anything to do with Mixon. Sure there were some people that thought he needed to be gone but Stoops was good with giving players a second chance when he felt he could help them. Dusty Dvoracek was one that a got a second chance several years prior to Mixon and now he is doing great in life and is a commentator for ESPN. Mixon after being kicked off the team for a year hasn't been in any trouble other than a parking ticket since to my knowledge. As far as Heupel being fired in all honesty you could ask just about any sooner fan and we all thought Mike Stoops Defense was the problem not Heupel's offense. It was at least ranked in the top 25 the year he was fired I believe. The one thing that was really bad though was the bowl game against Clemson in 2014 where we got beat 40-6 and how bad our offense looked in that game. I do hope Bob and Josh can move past that at some point but I understand why Josh would be upset about it. All in all I do believe it was best for both parties to move on and I think its at least worked out for us with the hiring of Lincoln Riley to replace Josh Heupel. I wish ya'll nothing but success and hope he gets ya'll challenging again in the SEC. The Vols are now my second favorite team with that hire plus when ya'll came to Norman I had a heck of time with your fans. I was very disappointed when the game was canceled this year.

Unless he has a bad attitude or is not driven, meaning taking NFL money and hitting the party trail. He will be a star he has it all on the field IMO. He could be a lot like Kamara in the league.
Gray is not 1/10 the player Kamara is. I’m trying to remember even one tackle he broke in his career here.

Edit: Kamara on the average run breaks more tackles than Gray can in a season.

Good stuff! Thanks for that extra insight. I have quite a few Sooner friends, looking forward to seeing what JH can do. Also looking forward to the next trip to Norman.

Y’all are going to look really stupid when Gray explodes on a well coached, productive offense.

The guy is a stud.

I wonder when that game will be rescheduled and in what year lol. I didn't get to make the trip the last team we went to Knoxville but I'm definitely coming to the one in 2024.

Everyone knows, geez. Kamara is a top 5 NFL back and a couple of you are trying to put Gray in the same category. View attachment 346514
Huh? No. I’m saying these people are ****ing idiots for trying to tear down Gray. It’s a HUGE loss. I love Kamara, but he ain’t here now, Gray was.
everything we saw from Gray is that he is an elite back with his best football yet to come. He was part of a dysfunctional offense and still put up good numbers.

Remember you didn't see Kamara until he transferred from Bama. Gray was a True Sophomore here this year in a covid year with a team in disarray. I am not saying Gray is as good but I see a lot of what Kamara was showing. I agree EG has done nothing close to what AK did at TAM game but like I said he's still young and he does have that twitch that all great RB's have, wish he would have stayed but I do believe we have some good RB's returning & good young WR's just not much D returning or on the team period.

He was good with optimal space and blocking. Overall he was just an average SEC back with a little bit of agility and speed.

That's what they were saying about younger AK at Bama when he couldn't get on the field ergo the transfer to a lower program.
That’s a manufactured storyline from you trying to spin a narrative to fit your position. Alabama had 3-4 NFL backs on the roster and Kamara had some nagging , lingering issues with injuries early on. Plus Kamara was suspended at least once during that time for attitude problems or something similar which got him in Saban’s doghouse. That’s why he transferred to Juco.

Let’s see. From the LOS Gray had over 1000 yards from scrimmage, throw in Chandler and they almost had as many yards as all three QB’s had passing combined. They did this behind a line that is definitely in the top 5 of worst run blocking lines we’ve ever had, and the defense could load up against the run because the QB’s weren’t a threat.

Kamara is a once in a generation NFL player. I am not comparing Gray to him. But he was the best player on the team from a production stand point and it’s not even close.

If Gray took money it was worth it because we don’t even win the three we did without him. Steel is gonna walk away with a million dollars and 20 plus players bolted and it was his job to keep them here.
