I'm probably very biased, because I've been listening to Neil since I was 6 or 7. However...

Clapton w/Cream makes it close, but then again, Live Rust is arguably the best live record you can find.

As a musician, I'd say Clapton hands down. As an overall artist, I'm gonna say Neil Young.

you're a good and respectful poster but I'm still waiting and looking forward to you answering my question.

You can't be a true southerner if you vote for Neil Young.

?

A musician is somebody who plays a musical instrument.

A musical artist is somebody who makes musical art. It encompasses musicians. A musical artist may play an instrument, or maybe they just rap.

I lik'em both a lot, but Clapton is far and away the better musician with Young being the better song-writer...just a matter of preference.

Both great.

When Clapton got off drugs his music went down hill.

There was a point when he couldn't perform due to those problems. I saw Clapton and Muddy Waters in the late '70's. EC was totally lost. The concert was worth it just to see Muddy. I probably like EC and Young about equally. Maybe, an edge to Young.

Yikes. Should wake up before posting.

Clapton is probably better but I like NY much more - his music is definitely more interesting.

Agree on Live Rust - I saw the movie several times and listen to the disc frequently. Powder Finger is one of my favs.

One of my most listened to NY albums is Sleeps with Angels - some really great guitar work and it has Crazy Horse.

I'm the other Neil Young voter. I am a Southerner and I just like his sound better. I skip over "Southern Man" when I listen to his CD. To me, there is a difference in the sound and the lyrics of an artist; you don't necessarily need one with the other, but it helps. I also think there is always going to be at least one song that is less popular than the others or one that no one really cares for. I think "Southern Man" fits that description, but I really like his other songs like "The Needle and the Damage Done," "Down By the River," "Harvest Moon," "Cowgirl in the Sand," "Like a Hurricane," "Everybody Knows this is Nowhere," and "Comes a Time," to name a few. :)
