The reason McKenzie didn't get to play much is that the staff doesn't trust him yet. He was coming along until the last scrimmage and he was horribly out of position way too much.
How many years will he have since he came in as a JUCO? 2? If so, that just seems like a waste.

Not a waste, most JUCOs are in that situation. We had no depth at safety once Morley got kicked out so we had to go JUCO. Why do you think Parrish was starting?

apparently berry played qb in h.s., they ought to have him running those packages that lucas taylor is doing. since his upside is more apparent from his 1st game than lucas's will ever be.

Not that it matters, but I'm told that Berry did in fact start at Cal. They played 5 db's and he was one of them in the first series. Can anyone confirm that?

Pick your poison here....have him at safety and lose out on his ability at corner, or have him at corner and lose out on his ability at safety.

I'd much rather him play corner than safety and I'm sure he doesn't want to play safety either. Although I'm sure he would to get on the field at this point, but this swapping around junk gets old. Not everyone is Jason Allen.

How do you define starter?

He was not listed as a starter going into the game.

He was not on the field for the Vols first defensive play.

It doesn't really matter, does it?

FWIW: I think that he did see the field on the first defensive series in a 5 DB set.

I confirm it! Berry was in on the first two plays, first was a penalty and he was blitzing!. The second he blitzed again, in fact I think he blitzed about 6 times and never really got close to a sack. But I'm telling you right now if he stays healthy he won't wear Orange for 4 years! I would say more but I don't wanna jinx him.

You're right. I didn't seem him until later in the game on Saturday. But, I just checked the DVR and he was in the game and was blitzing. It does look like he "started" ... although he wasn't on the "official" starters depth chart.

Eric Berry and oters did a good job at shaking off any effects of big game jitters. The ones that appeared the most intimidated was our coaches. Everyone should realize the coaches had the "*#@!" to put the freshmen in the first game, big game....or is that how weak we really are on defense to have to play freshmen and true soph's.

My word on the offense is "where is our running game"? and where is our deep threat game...Lucas and Austin can fly. I would have liked ot have seen more long ball opportunities taken advantage of. Ainge got decent protection on 1st & 2nd downs, but on 3rd downs they brought the kitchen sink. Oh yeah, about those 3rd.'s and short....God help us in the future game. Go to huddle once in awhile and get your act together. I have wacthed the game several times now and those third down plays made our receivers look so confused.

Final Remarks on Offense: GOOD + COKER = BETTER.

MY GAME BALLS GO TO ARIAN, ERIC AND LUCAS, and I guess Austin to for losing his helmet and still going head first to hit someone without head protection...you r tuff and from Tennessee.

Coaching staff has publicly said they would have a small "skat-back" package for Berry once he settles in, but as much as he will now be at strong safety, maybe not. Fulmer quoted in post-game comments that Berry may be a safety the whole game against SMiss
