Eric Berry

They've already talked about him in that regard. They said he is the type of kid that, if he was to give up a big TD, he would be right back in the guy's face on the next play.

There are plenty of defensive backs over the years who came in and played well immediately. Great players play, regardless of class. If Berry's what he's touted to be, he should be on the field immediately.
we've had several greats that came in from JUCO programs and started immediately. Same arguments could apply to them that would apply to someone from HS.

But I could understand if the coaches didn't want to make this issue academic right off the bat.

I also understand that, no matter when they put the kid in, he could get burned early. So, I get that my points were not all that coherent.

My overall point, however, which I did not make very well, was simply that, if you bring him in off the bench, he might have an opportunity to let his nerves settle a bit before he plays his first down. Also, if he sees other CBs playing competent football, and if he views himself as being as good or better than them, he is less likely to get burned because of nerves or uncertainty or whatever. He can just go in a play ball, which I'm sure he is great at anyway.

I'm not saying this is necessarily the right call. I'm just saying that I could see where a coach might reasonably do things this way.

If he's a stud, tell him so. Motivate him as well, but his job is about confidence and he needs all he can get. Guys that get creamed tiptoe into the position. I want someone aggressive, but not stupid. Sounds like he has the athletic ability to play aggressively.

I don't know that it's in Eric Berry's best interest to be thrown to the wolves as a starter against a team like Cal. Having him as the 3rd or 4th guy out there where he has a bit more freedom to make a mistake and recover as the QB goes through his 1st and 2nd options will ease him into the process. haha

Although seeing him eye to eye with DeSean Jackson after we're up by 2 tds would be niiiiiiiiice.

I'm curious as to why we haven't heard a whole lot from Nevin McKenzie or DeAngelo Willingham.

I heard he is already slated to start for the Cal game, is this true? Also what is everyones opinions on the first scrimage compared to last years?
Slate called him a playmaking fool, so I'd say he's pretty high on Berry and will start his player maker... Berry should start
