Considering Florida scored the next 31 points after that.....
Another example of a game where a "well-timed" fumble by Arian Foster cost Tennessee any chance they had of winning a game. In this one, it was 28-20 Florida in the 3rd qtr and the Vols forced UF to punt. Foster fumbled on the first play after wards and the Gators took the ball in for a score and the rout was on.
Here's a recap of his fumbles and how they affected games. He didn't fumble often but when he did, it sure looked like point shaving or worse.
"The first one was in the South Carolina game in 2005, at the goal line going in with a 12-7 second quarter lead. The Vols lost 16-15.
The second one was in the Outback Bowl at the end of the 2006 season. In a 10-10 ball game with ten minutes left, Foster fumbled at the Penn State 12, and it was returned 88 yards for a touchdown. Penn State won 20-10.
The next one was at Florida in 2007, with the Vols trailing 28-20 with the ball in the third quarter. Florida picked it up and ran it back for six. They never looked back, 59-20.
At UCLA in 2008, Foster fumbled going inside the five yard line with the Vols ahead 14-7 on the first drive of the third quarter. UCLA won in overtime.
A few weeks later at Auburn, another Foster fumble led to another defensive touchdown. The Vols lost 14-12.
Five fumbles in four years. There were a handful of others that carried no great significance in the outcome, though we should note that this is only the case because the
most famous one was recovered by Tennessee. But those five plays were the catalyst in five losses."
There was another one vs South Carolina in Neyland in 07. Vols driving for what proved to be the game winning TD (closing minutes of game) when Foster uncharacteristically fumbled. Only an unbelievable hustle play by guard Jacques McClendon saved the day on that one. Vols recovered and went on to score despite Foster's best effort to thwart it.
