Berry should have won. However, its not the end of the world. If he has a similar year next year, he'll win this thing hands down.

I for one, am still steaming about this. So, this would be the third screwjob in 3 attempts.

1956 - Johnny Majors/Jim Brown lose heisman to Paul Horuning and his 2 win NA team.
1997 - Peyton gets screwed for the Heisman
2008 - Berry loses the Thorpe award to a guy who couldn't carry his jock.

why are you so insistent on dogging people that obviously are just upset and want to voice thier opinion? why is it up to you to "correct" everyone and put themin thier place? is it that bad for you to let these guys just voice thier frustration and so what if they blame espn? what does it matter to you? i guess you will try to put me in my place now and tell me everything wrong with me but i was just wondering

It gets old to see all the ESPN hate. It's dumb and has no basis. It has been stated multiple times in this thread that ESPN didn't give the award, so they could not have screwed Eric Berry. That is a fact. If more people would pay attention to facts they could develop informed opinions. If more people had informed opinions there would be less crap to wade through. If you don't like that I called someone out on it, ignore me.

To whom it may concern:

Something has to be done about the football awards. Most of the sports writers are from the north. Macolm Jenkins being selected over Eric Berry is a disgrace to football awards and Thorpe himself. Just like Charles Woodson being selected over Peyton Manning was a major disgrace to Heisman.

Here is proof on the current disgrace:

Malcolm Jenkins - 54 tackles, 3 ints for 7 yds and 0 touchdowns, 3.5 tackles for loss

Eric Berry - 72 tackles, 7 ints for 265 return yds, and 2 tds, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks

The fans, ALL media, and ALL coaches should vote on the outcome!!!!!!!

ESPN hired thugs to strong arm voters. People who would have normally voted for Eric Berry were afraid to because of the threat of bodily harm so they cast their votes for Jenkins. The lengths that ESPN will go to to screw the University of Tennessee are disgusting.

IMO, he won the thing hands down this year. No excuse for what happened tonight. Someone please explain to me why a guy who did everything he could to make this UT team stay afloat, who time and time again won ballgames for us, who has better stats than the FREAKING WINNER gets the shaft. I'm so peeved right now... Eric, we all know who the real winner was. We're proud to have you at Tennessee.

I don't care who some Yank Big Ten homers picked to be their award winner. Eric Berry= 2008 Thorpe Award Winner.

Guys guys.....havent yall learned that these awards are a popularity contest?

I watched every college football award show up until the year after the Peyton debacle. Peyton clearly should have won the Heisman hands down, but Woodson won it. Now the following year, Champ Bailey had much better numbers across the board than Woodson had the year before and finished 7 in the Heisman and behind 5 QBs that didnt have near the numbers Peyton had against better competition!

ESPN has way too much influence on who wins the Heisman and Tennessee is a school that doesnt kiss ESPN's ass

If your from Florida, Florida ST, Ohio ST, Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Oklahoma, or Texas and you up for an award you are almost a lock to get it.

Its a popularity contest and yes, Berry is hands down the deserving canidate for this award but he was going against someone from one of the previous schools mentioned.

The W-L record exactly. These are college awards, not pro awards. They're notorious year in and out for giving big points to how a player's team does and often more importantly what year you are in college....they're really all as flawed as the heisman alot of the time
