Personally, I think they are both freak athletes, but I think there is no comparasion between the two... Don't get me wrong, Mays is a tremendous talent with a great NFL future in front of him, but he doesn't have the complete package that Berry has. They are both great hitters and both are freakishly explosive. Mays is 6'3 235 lbs and reportedly runs in the 4.3 range... if that is true, due to his lack of ball skills, I think he may be better suited as an OLB at the next level... Berry on the other hand has very good hips and ball regonition and skills, which will prove useful as an Ed Reed type player in the NFL. I think Mays gets more publicity being on USC's team than Berry, but to me there is no comparasion.

Tennessee defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, who knows a thing or two about what defenses are looking for in the NFL, has already said that he can't see how a team with the first pick in the draft wouldn't take Berry. The reason being: You just don't see 200-pound safeties who can hit the way Berry does, yet also possess the man-to-man coverage skills to slide over to the nickel and lock down a receiver. Two of the guys Berry grew up idolizing were Ed Reed and the late Sean Taylor, both prototypical NFL safeties. Berry will join that stratosphere soon enough.

Mays did not even pick a pass off and Berry had seven. Their is no comparison. Berry also should have won the Jim Thorpe Award over Malcolm Jenkins.

i honestly think if mays wasn't at sc and didn't run that mythical 4.3 that no one would really know of him. his stats certainly don't back up any argument that he is better than berry. his stats aren't even better than a good deal other players in the pac-10 let alone the country. is running really fast and being big really a reason to be called the best player in the country? shouldn't production matter too?

hands down..Berry If he goes into the draft after this year ( hope not) he should be the overall #1 selection.

Ive really not seen Mays play but I want to. Also, didnt really know UCSs D was a Tampa D type deal. :eek:

False! Malcolm had to play week in and week out against the best offenses in the Nation. the Big Ten has players on teh O side of the ball like...

um...that one guy for that team...

and the guy who runs the ball for that other team...

Berry is the better football player, hands down.

I can see a team being blown away with Mays' speed and size and taking him over Berry however.

You take Mays's measurables and compare them to Berry's, just numbers with no names attached, and the recruiting gurus on VN would fall all over themselves to get Mays.

In a fair and unbiased world...absolutely...

But we all know that's not the world we live in...

So if you're freakishly big and fast and you play for one of the best teams in the country who also happens to be a media darling then you're going to get built up...

The fact that he didn't even have an interception last year and yet there is still a debate over him or Berry is proof of that

Mays would be an incredible OLB. As a safety, he's still pretty good but Berry is the best DB in the country hands down

Of course they would, but most of them are football know nothings. However, some of them do watch highlight tapes.

i bet berry runs a faster 40. i don't for a second believe mays is anywhere near a 4.25.
