If Eric Berry played for Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, USC...he would be most assuredly getting Heisman talk. He might not win it but he would be mentioned. I believe in my heart that if he were on the above mentioned teams...especially if Notre Dame was BCS bound...he would be in New York in December. Anyone else agree?

I agree that he would be up for Heisman if he was on a good team....But the fact that we are loosing over half of our games doesn't help him at all.

Even if UT was doing well he wouldnt win it....not close. As one of my good friends stated so eloquently in December 1997..."If Peyton Manning cant win the Heisman, NO Tennessee player can win the Heisman". Truer words have never been spoken.

He might not win it, but he would be getting some talk if UT was having a really good season.

I think the SEC overall is more respected now than it was in 1997. That being said, this Tennessee team has sadly become a joke. If we were 8-3 I think he would be being talked about by more people than just us.

That is absolutely false.

While Manning getting screwed is one of the great Heisman travesties (compare Berry's numbers this year to Woodson's...I know Woodson played SOME offense too), I believe that it was more a product of the time and environment than anything else. In 1997, a majority of people still didn't have Internet and those that did had dial-up. There weren't as many media outlets, ability to see most of a team's games, etc. ESPN was the go to source for all things college football. And that year, they did nothing but hype up Woodson and the Wolverines. And that is how Peyton lost the Heisman. It just goes to show you the media's true powers of persuasion among the mindless masses.

Even with all the interception returns and big plays, he will need more offensive and/or return highlights to be in Heisman consideration. Obviously we need to win as well. Hopefully the new coach will make all this possible.

he is our horse and a great defensive football player, but the Heisman talk is ludicrous.

I'm talking about the Thorpe and Lott award.

But:

Give the man 7 touches a game on offense, let him return a couple of punts and viola he's got a better season than Charles Woodson ever dreamed about.

I understood what you were talking about, my comment was to the original poster about Heisman talk.

If Berry was to have a chance, UT would probably have to be a national title contender on a defense driven team without any other big names.
