Eric Berry changing mind?

nothing else he can do on the football field, really. 2 time consensus all american, JT winner, top 5 pick. 8 figures heading into his bank account. Breaking the int return yards record isn't worth giving that up... he can get his degree in the off season

Yeah Berry should go pro without a doubt, as much as I want him to stay. For his best interest run for the money. I know that I would.

ok before all of you cast stones and burn me at the stake..here me out.

First let me clarify that this is not official but it is something that is interesting that i got from a very reliable source.

Today i spoke with a good friend of mine (who will remain nameless for obvious reasons) who happens to be a sports agent at a particular company who handles several former vols in the nfl...one being a certain dt that gets paid a ton of money (im sure you can figure it out). This particular company is vying to represent eb, however...from what i was told today was that eric is seriously reconsidering coming back for his senior year. I was told that eric has not spoken with any agents yet...but his family has spoken with affiliates from this company and apparently eric's mother is really putting the press on eric to finish school and get his degree. In all probability he will still go, this is just very interesting news from a very very reliable source.

he goes no lower than 3rd overall,,,his mommy will be seeing the dollar signs and see the light.. He is not comin back

I don't question this part at all, but several past early defections from college football have gone on to complete their degrees while playing in the NFL. I think he can still leave early and keep his mom happy by finishing his degree as well.

What is the fan reaction if he does come back? Will y'all think less of him for doing it?

(For the record, I hope he goes and shows the entire country how good he is.)

I would think he loves the Vols more than I could dream anyone (other than maybe Peyton) does. I'm sure he would have an insurance policy that would pay him if he were injured during his senior season, but it would take a lot of loyalty and/or love for the program in order to bypass an opportunity at being a top 5 pick now.

I can tell you if he does talk to an agent (assuming it is Jimmy), he will be gone for sure as he should. An agent will show the light, $$$$$$$.

Would love to se him stay but he has to do the right thing which is leave.

If he talks to an agent, I definately would not want him to come back. He can't come back without causing NCAA violations then.

Give it a rest, he's not coming back, nor should he. Look at what happened to Gresham and Bradford at Oklahoma this year. I bet they wish they left last year. It cost both of them a lot of money.

It's not always about money.

It's not always about money.

If I were him I'd go pro, make my millions, and after my career was go back and finish my degree. You can get your degree at any age, but you can't play football when your 45. These are his prime years for his career and he doesn't need to waste them for a team that will most likely only win 8 games at best next year.(hope I'm wrong about that)

Take the money now and finish degree later.

I don't care who you are, when you are talking about somewhere around 15 million for a signing bonus alone, it should be about the money. That kind of money will get you a Harvard degree if you want it.

I think bringing up Bradford has no place in the discussion of someone not coming back to play their senior year due to fear of injury. He's a projected top 10 pick and the 2nd qb overall. While he did miss the possibility of being 1st or 2nd overall, imo i feel like 5th overall is a decent spot in the draft.

The difference in the 2009 draft between the #1 and #5 pick was 13.7 million in guaranteed money.

Bradford is still a projected first rounder in a lot of mocks.

I imagine if he stays he will have a multi-million dollar insurance policy. I hope he goes, but if he stays, in my mind he will have Manning/Wilson status and a street on Campus Named after him.

Hey, if you'll give me $30m or so, I'll gladly drop out of school to play a game. I can finish school later if I even need to work again.

kiper has bradford going 5th, i know he might have gone first last year but i think the same would happen to berry if he got hurt.. maybe 3rd pick to idk 5th or 6th?

i wish he would come back but i dont see it happening.

I knew after watching berry play his fr season that he would be gone after his jr season... i claimed he would win the heisman and people laughed at me... although he never got that trophy he did get the Thorpe (he deserved it more last season)
Like everyone else the chance to watch EB play another season in orange would be great but that is nothing more than a dream

the reason to go to college is to increase your earning power right? What is the point of staying 1 more year to get a degree when you are already there without one? His signing bonus will more than cover any school he wants to go to when he's done playing football

...it is the same thing as having a different unique talent, such as a pianist or great violin player, do you stay in the marching band if Carnegie Hall comes calling...I doubt it.

As every VOL fan I love Berry (same with Peyton) but I thought he should have gone (was thrilled he stayed) and think it best for EB to go.

But IF by some remote chance he stays...WOW!!!

GO VOLS

I figure that he's probably gone, and it's the wise move. Coming back worked out pretty well for Peyton. Leaving early didn't work so well for Heath Shuler. Arguments can be made for either option. He just as easily could get hit by a car or shot by someone on the basketball team :neener2: tomorrow as get hurt playing football next year if he came back. There are records he could break and awards he could win if he came back, not to mention the team would be better off with his return. While the money could, and probably will be considerably less for draft picks in 2011, he'll have plenty of opportunity to make that up over time. I hope he does what makes him happy, not what he feels he should do or is obligated to do. I'm sure his parents have told him the same thing.
