The actual “adult”, the parent in this case, gave the signed consent for the minor child. The minor child cannot consent on their own.

I’m not advocating they get some sort of special treatment (e.g., Housing, Duties, Gear, Food). They can fall in with the rest. Mom can’t choose his post.

This at least brings up an interesting question. There isn't an arbitrary date on a calendar but most everyone agrees a 5yo and a 17yo are not remotely the same thing, correct? Also this person, if it's just as simple as under 18, is supposedly a "child".

And even the straight legal definition is malleable. There are at least 2 people that were 12 yet were tried as "adults" in criminal cases.
