Enough complaining

I don't often post threads, heck I rarely post replies despite watching most posts on this board. When I do I try to make sure it means something. Some of this has been stated before...regardless...here goes.

I get it, I get that it's frustrating to see our team down so low. I get that it's even harder to see a team like Florida do well. Unfortunately for us we are in a big hole here. Fortunately for us... We have all of the pieces of the puzzle either already here or en route within the next few years.

Coach Pruitt may not have ever taken on a head coaching position. His coordinators and position coaches may not have either. What they do have? Is a huge list of accomplishments and achievements very few teams in the country can stack up against.

That list?
1-Seven national championships
2-21 conference championships
3-Over 50 NFL Draft Selections
4-Over 75 All-Americans
And Over 50 years of experience in the Sec combined

I know everyone is tired of losing... Especially our coaches who have really never been on the receiving side of losses like this. We aren't cursed. Our athletic department made stupid decisions one after another until the day they pulled Fulmer back into the fold.

If you think that the coaches aren't doing everything they can to make this team better every single minute of every day; you truly need to look at the facts.

They are having to break a losing mentality that has been coached and programmed into them for most of these guys. If you've never been an athlete you've probably never seen or experienced what a confidence level can change in performance.

The bad habits have to be ousted, broken, and retaught. Psychologically it takes 90 days to break a bad habit, this team realistically hasn't even been training together under coach for that long.

This is retraining mentality, physicality, teamwork, effort, and confidence. Anyone who expected this to be an overnight ordeal hasn't looked at what Butch did to this team. Look at how much he underachieved with the talent he had in his grip. It's nothing short of incompetence and training a losing mentality.

I come from a background of training mixed martial artists. I know the trained losing mentality and its incredibly hard to break then form correct habits.

I'm a general manager for a restaurant now, I was brought in because of this same mentality. My track record was an assistant manager for years who had success everywhere I went. I came into a disaster of a place. Terrible service, no processes being performed correctly, no organization. It took me 6 months to get the right staff in place and almost another 6 to get where I wanted them to be.

Point is that this was every single day with these people. Every day repeating the same things, riding their tails, stepping on toes, pushing them.

We want to win? Give coach time. Stop complaining about it. We know it sucks. We can literally do nothing about it but wait. The staff will right the ship...honestly I don't think anyone can if this doesn't work out. We can't find a much better all around staff than what's been assembled here.

GBO

Do you really believe there is a single coach in the history of coaching sports that " trains to lose"? Where do you guys come up with these ridiculous phrases? Why do you keep repeating them?

Last years team was one year removed from back to back 9 win seasons. Was the staff "training a losing mentality" then? Or was it something new they'd though they would try last year?

This team has plenty enough talent to compete and beat with all but three teams on this year's schedule. What they do not have is an experienced coaching staff to help them get there.

How come we haven't seen inkling one of that championship caliber coaching rub off on these kids yet?
Great Post and question. It is interesting that not one the "coach worshippers" on here have even attempted to answer. I bet if they tried itvwould be with one of these excuses we have heard for the last 10 years; dont have the talent; dont have the players; have to change the culture around here: have to recruit better and so on.
A ball coach can take any group of players and be competitive. Plain and simple. In five games this year we have failed each time to be competitive.

I believe all it's going to take is one bounce that goes our way. These kids feel cursed. Shoot, we think we're cursed. There's going to be something in a game that goes our way and the light bulb is going to come on for these young men. Sometimes, winning is more about what's going on between the ears.

I agree with what you're saying, but I will disagree with one point. You say everyone is tired of losing, I would argue that most of Butch's recruited players aren't tired of losing yet. We thought our guys would be up for Florida in our house, we looked like a high school team. 6 turnovers prove that. Last week we looked better on offense, but nowhere near good enough to beat anybody. Until the light and the fire comes on for Butch's players, we won't see improvement. That may be a matter of player turnover.
The Farragut High School football team plays and makes in-game adjustments much better than the UT football team from my observations. The players know their roles and responsibilities and are fun to watch because they seem to really enjoy playing the game of football. I hope CJP can instill the same type of commitment and "esprit de corps".

I don’t see how anyone can make a judgment on a coach or staff until a minimum of 3 years and more fairly until the fourth or fifth year when they have their players in the program and running their system.

He lost the battle during the last signing day. After witnessing his uninspired coaching, what makes you think the next signing day will end better? Early commits mean nothing until they sign the dotted line and are on campus.
I haven't seen uninspired coaching, I think this staff will continue to recruit well. Pruitt and staff will get it done. GBO!

Three years or so to judge whether or not to retain a catch maybe, but you don't need 36+ games to tell whether or not a coach's methods, and or assistant hires are successful.

Logical thinking... You should post more.. I totally agree that it’s going to take time...
Too bad we live in a society that wants instant gratification....

Yes, you are correct, 15 years is too soon to expect a turn around in the program. Since Fulmer was fired they have spent 1.3 billion dollars (100 million budget per year) to get us to the point where we are looking up at Vanderbilt (30 million dollar budget)! I could use some instant gratification!

Just gonna push this back and say...

Progress. Improvement is happening before our eyes. The barn and the cats fell and I have the utmost faith that this trend will continue. Already looking forward to next year and more so the next. Great things are on the horizon. Keep the faith GBO

Its strange, but a lot of people here think because we've waited 10 years we've been patient enough and Pruitt should be able to snap his fingers and BOOM...

Lol.. Exactly!! You got that right!! Like we’re loaded with 4 and 5 star athletes.. He has shown improvement with this roster we have.. I’m excited to see how we finish out this year and what’s on the horizon..

I see you’ve quoted me twice... what exactly are you not comprehending??

You act like everyone here wants expects UT to go to the championship game and play toe to toe with Bama. I have not seen anyone with that expectation post here. We do expect that, given 4 games where the team could win without a coaching staff, UT could win 6 games and go to a bowl. Those are minimum expectations not instant gratifications. Thats the job description, JP knows that and so do his assistants. Looks like they are getting the job done so far. Can they go further, depends on the backing they get from the administration.

Oh please.. I don't act like anything. You must skim and scan when you read because there have been many posts on here from some wishing he'd somehow get us to GA for the championship game against Bama.... I agree with your second to last sentence. I like what I'm seeing from Pruitt so far.. Looking forward to seeing how we do in the next recruiting cycle...

You've seen a post on these forums, where someone has openly expressed their expectation that Pruitt would have UT in the SECCG, at the end of the 2018 season? Was the post in blue font?

Probably was sarcastic or maybe not.. I just know there’s still quite a few impatient Vol fans on the this site... Either way I’m just glad to see progress being made....
