Enjoyed win but in reality...

They had more offensive yards than us, more first downs. Take away 5 turn overs (3 were unforced) and over 100 yards of penalties by VT and we probably do not win.

Except for the fumble recovery last week, Hurd would have been kept scoreless two weeks in a row. Didn't break 100 tonight. Line needs serious overhauling and Dobbs passing on third and long is really bad. Play calling only marginally improved.

I've never been negative before so this pains me.

Tech sure didn't help themselves out. I love the win and we took advantage of their mistakes but I wonder what would have happened if they didn't turn the ball over 5 times.

Dead on analysis! Without some quick drastic improvement by players AND COACHES (ESPECIALLY DUBORD), we will get stomped by good SEC teams. The team at this point looks like a 6-8 win team.

This exactly. Right now we lose the big 4 this year. The 5th lose could be MO.

Yeah, man, take away the 45 points and it would have been a 24-0 shutout for Tech.

You can't play that if, shoulda, coulda, woulda game. Give the defense credit for some hard hits and creating some of those turnovers.

Defense won that game. They deserve most of the credit.

Josh Malone playing well.Hurd and Kamara good players as always.

Our Offensive line, however, played very poorly. Dobbs was getting buried and harassed all night. They interception was directly caused by pressure by a d-lineman beating the block like a naughty school boy.

In reality they turned over and we didn't. You czn play what if all night. If they had scored more than us, they would have won. See I did it too. We got better and won. Also, our coaches saw and changed our oline, which did get better. So little improvement each week and keep getting ready for the four game stretch we have coming up.

to the fact of us having less yards then they did was based on short field due to turnovers.... they were rolling for a bit!! go vols:pepper::pepper:

I am not sure where to put this but, Congratulations, vols. Thanks for the initiation. Take the win and move on. We have a precedent for playing like this in big games. For example, against Bama three years ago, we had 11 dropped passes and gave up two (kick/punt) returns and an easy pick six to lose about the same difference as last night. You just took advantage and that's the name of the game.

You haven't solicited it, but my opinion is you're team is going to need to find Dobbs some more help if you're going to beat the better teams.

Good luck to you this year! Here's to meeting in the national championship. (Dream mode off!)

Field position had a lot to do with us not getting as many yards. We got great FP all night due to turn overs. Hard to gain 75 yards when you start on their end of the field.
The team looked a lot better. Period

Oh hey logic

I totally agree , and hope the silver lininwng with itthese "ugly wins" is that we peak at the right time. At this point I am okay with ugly win as long as we keep winning! Also, would love to see Cortez McDowell compete for Kirklands spot if needed.

So, Sunshine Pumpers and NegaVols....

IN MY OPINION (not claiming to be an expert),

1. The 14 points in the first quarter was a direct result of our poor OL play. The defense was out there for something like 25 out of 30 minutes in real time. Defense held on the first drive after a few first downs, got NO chance to rest after a quick 3 and out and then VT had a sustained drive. Then a quick 4 and out, and we give up that 60 yard TD scramble. They were gassed by that point due to having no time to rest.

2. Offense obviously looked pathetic the first two drives because VT was in the backfield every single snap. Thomas got yanked, Jack went in, things got better (also, God bless S. JONES for stepping up). Once the OL issue corrected itself, Tennessee was off to the races.

3. For those saying "well, if VT didn't tien the ball over so much. ..." JUST. STOP. VT did turn it over that much. Some of that was due to big hits by the UT D and some were mental errors. You press, you execute, you wait for the breaks, and then you seize the opportunity.

4. Aside from a shaky first quarter, UT hammered VT to the tune of 45-10. 3 consecutive solid quarters of football after 5 lackluster quarters. Let's hope they keep that momentum going...because football is a game of momentum.

5. This team is going to have to get solid contributions moving forward, or they ARE going to lose some games. Let's pump the brakes on Florida though. They still haven't played anybody. Kentucky just might be the worst team in the SEC this year. They (FU) still have to come up and play in front of 103,000 in two weeks and Junior Del Rio has ZERO road starts. The noise WILL be a major factor in two weeks.

6. Dobbs is who he is. We are stuck with him now, through the rest of this year. If you give him time, he is serviceable, but anybody expecting 275 passing yards every week is going to be sorely disappointed. For right now, I hate to say it because I love a big passing attack, but we live and die with Dobbs. He has, however, connected almost every time he went deep in the first two games.

God bless you all...Never forget and remember our fallen from 9/11/01...and Go Vols.

That was a good win and I'm proud of team 120 for showing up in front of the biggest crowd to ever watch a football game.

Yes the Oline (even with JJ in) still needs a lot of improvement and our D had a lot of missed tkl's which is 2 weeks in a row so that's a trend and needs fixed quickly but for the "if they didn't have 5 TO's crowd, be happy we got some good luck for a change. Seems its usually the Vols that shoot themselves in the foot or outplay a team and still lose. Not last night!

These guys finished strong again which is night/day from last season. Congrats 120!

9/11 never forget

I look at it like this, this was the largest game in the history of football. This was really bigger than any Super Bowl or any College Championship game. I'm talking crowd wise and hype, you have a team of kids out there between 18 and maybe 23 years old. I'm sure that the nerves were there. Personally, I believe that our Vols made a statement last night. It took them until the 2nd quarter and being down 14-0 but they didn't do like the Vols of old and just lay down. No they fought and came back, as Butch would say "each individual showed great resiliency". We should beat Ohio next week and then we start SEC play. After watching Florida, we can beat them in Knoxville, Georgia in Athens might be tough but only because it's down there. Bama is really the only team that worries me out of those three.
Now I'm no football expert by any means, if I were I would be on the sideline somewhere every Saturday. I have watched enough football to know a little bit about it. It's really easy to sit at home in the recliner and criticize, if your that football smart then I would suggest that you go up there and offer advice to Butch and the guys. But please come back and tell us what they say, I'm sure it won't be good.

How many short fields did we have? Two of our scores covered a combined 10 yards or something. Yards don't matter, points do.

We're 2-0 and on an 8 game win streak.

I'll let everyone else piss and moan. I'm going to be happy that my team is rolling.

Why take away 5 turnovers. They happened. And forced some of those by great defensive plays. They had more yards? Okay? Who had more points? That's what matters. Dude enjoy the win!

Why take them away? Because we cannot go into games with a strategy based on hope that the other team will commit enough turnovers for us to win, that's why! Do you really think that UF, Bama, Georgia, TAMU or even Mizzou will turn the ball over five times? I don't think so. If we play against those teams the way we did against VT, we will lose more than once.

It is very rare for UT to NOT be in this position at this time of the year. Remember how it was in 2014? And 2013? And 2012? Enjoy your first two weeks of the season...but it hasn't even started to get real, yet. It almost never does before game #3.

Color me completely unimpressed by the Vols win over VT. The Vols did not win that game; VaTech lost it with atrocious ball protection. Aside from those turnovers, VaTech outplayed UT for much of the game.

Looked like a solid win to me, of course it could have been closer on the scoreboard, but nice win in my book.

Color you a fan of someone else because you don't seem to support the Vols.

Really????LMFAO..any QB is going to struggle on third and long. The key is to stay away from third and long

When our DT's are getting push like they were on the center and guards last night, those aren't just bad snaps by coincidence. That center had to deal with King Tut, KMac, Kongbo, and Vickers all night long. If you think that didn't play into the bad snaps, then watch again(once we made some adjustments, our athletic DT's allowed our D to open up, and they played their part)...their center was getting jumpy causing bad shotgun snaps.
