The Furman coach seems like a good candidate. Young, offensive minded, winning record. I hope RB stays of course, but BR would be a nice replacement

Another, other one is Bill Guthridge getting handed the keys to UNC for a few years after Dean Smith retired. He had some good tournament runs but the Heels did progressively worse in the ACC in each of his three years, and he had the misfortune of being a longtime assistant who just wasn't Dean Smith.

Yeah, the NIL/Portal will definitely make it easier.
You may even say a litte more probable.
I don't doubt that. I just think it's hard to to go to a school and make any real noise this first year in respect. Louisville, KY, and even Arkansas made it to the tournament this year. I don't think anyone of them make any serious runs, tho.
It usually takes at least a year or so to really find your footing at a new school.

The problem is that most of the “big names” are very comfortable where they are and have no reason to move. Read an article just the other day that said we are going to see a lot less movement of name coaches than we used to see. Unless it’s moving to retirement because they are tired of the new world we are in. Unless you get very lucky, you almost have to look at an up and comer or an established assistant.

I’ve thought about Jans a few times. Just didn’t think he was realistic enough to consider too seriously so haven’t mentioned him on here. I think he would knock it out of the park here, though.

It’s hard for me to see Oats coming here, but he’s undoubtedly a winner. I just don’t like the guy. Probably hypocritically, I like Beard and think he would be phenomenal. I don’t really care if his style is aesthetically pleasing, I think he would have us in perennial contention. The other guys above the line I would need to look into more, but they wouldn’t excite me as of right now.

The guys below the line would be a crapshoot but a lot of potential in that group.

Yes, it will finally be nice to see an UT head coach go out on their own terms. Tired of seeing firings and health related early retirements.
