Enjoy it. Really.

As of now Barnes leaving a crap roster for 2026 (unless multiple seniors are able to return) will be a blight on his legacy unless this team goes DEEP into this tournament. I hope that energizes him to return.
It’s not like there’s a bunch of SEC teams stockpiled with talent for the future. Part of the new college landscape we’re in. Appears Barnes has 4 quality + culture guys for the roster next year which imo is about all you could hope for at any school

Regardless of our tournament run, there will be no "blight" on his legacy whenever he decides to retire

Kentucky had zero players return from last year including recruits. Pope had to build entire roster with transfers and added Perry and Noah in recruiting. We will be fine with whatever Barnes decides to do. He has some great returning players that better than what Cal left the Cats.

I hope CRB stays. But, if he decides he has had enough there's one coach out there who would jump at the chance to come here. Will Wade is gonna get hired by somebody and win big. I know. He's a jerk. But, some would say BP is a jerk and a lot of people would love him back here. If not here, i hope WW isn't hired by another team in the SEC (Texas?)
Wade won’t be a candidate. Not going to take that kind of risk again after the way Pearl and Tyndall ended.

Rofl, Pearl has a much much much better chance of coming back than Will Wade; and Pearl has zero chance.

Louisville AND KY had to do this. And both came out pretty well.

This same kind of statement was made by some after last season to. Those statements didn't age well so we will see next yr. I suspect Barnes is aware of the losses after this season and has a plan.

Always some negas around that will try to denigrate Rick Barnes. (Don’t know exactly what they are saying since I have most on Ignore but I know who they are. Don’t have to read the junk.) Rick’s legacy is safe at UT regardless of what he does in the tournament and he will be sorely missed when he’s gone. Would be nice to make the Final Four and we have a shot, but any knowledgeable basketball fan knows what a crapshoot that is.

If DW does have a succession plan, I would be interested to know how firm it is. I mean, obviously we’ll never know who target #1 is publicly, but with the coaching carousel being huge this year, and many programs already on the hunt, if Barnes does retire after this season I just can’t imagine there will be many top targets left on the board.

One thing is for certain, it’s going to be a very interesting search.

My guess is that DW has already already made assurances with whoever his #1 target is.

It's a swerve....it's Calipari.

Real talk though. Kim Caldwell was such a slam dunk hire that whoever we hire, and wherever they come from…I’ll be a believer
I almost worry about the precedent a new coach needs to equal. “Welcome buddy, Just do as well as Tony, Josh and Kim right away, and things should be good.” DW is batting 1000. My paranoia says no one bats 1000 forever, but he’s definitely earned our trust and I have no reason to doubt his process. Of course, I prefer a world where Barnes and staff stay, but this will be a big hire if he doesn’t.

Barnes did here what I've always hoped coaches would do at any of our programs. Leave it better than he found it. That's not happened since General Neyland retired for a major men's sport. Pearl was close but his ending was just too toxic. We are a stable, top program that any coach should want to be a part of if possible. Barnes showed that you can win here and that you'll get financial and fan support at the highest level.

That said, I'm hoping he's got at least another year in him and lets us go out with a retirement tour of sorts next season.
Not true, Kiffin told us he left us better than when he arrived. Sorry, I had to bring that up. I’ll see myself out.

Although you all obviously have boosters and sources that give good information, it’s just hard for me to see Barnes put a new coach in such a tough position with most high schoolers already committed and the portal already open. You would assume all commits will decommit and most if not all returning players would transfer. I could be very wrong and maybe Barnes replacement has already been recruiting, but it just doesn’t seem like Barnes would do that. Is Barnes retiring 50/50 or do we even know?
According to the groundhog, Punxatawney Phil, we have 6 more years of Barnes.

I guess he forgot that he calls the UT colors yellow and white, put up a shrine to USC in the football offices, and had Ogre on the phone wrecking our recruiting class.

But he was good at keeping the Lexus body shop garage and mattress stores busy.
