Question for all those that have bought one (or more :) )

Does it matter if the diamond is certified or non-certified?

I've about it some and it seems the only difference is that a certified has been checked better and isn't a conflict diamond. If that's the only difference I'm going non certified b/c of $. I've asked several people in my office and my parents and they didn't even know there was a difference.

Not married yet. My girl just left for England for three weeks yesterday and I was going to get the ring while she is gone.

I dated another girl for three years and she cheated on me so after we broke up I was anti committment and would date a girl for about a month till she wanted to get serious. But when I met my current girl everything fell into place and it was one of those things I just knew. I think she's hot, she not a girly-girl and we are both Christians.

also my picture on profile is of my girl, nephew and me if you thought that was my kid or something.

Having a certification isn't all that important, really. But, you do risk getting a diamond that is not what it is sold as.

I bought my diamond from a jewlery store in New York over the internet. It was certified, but I took it to a guy in Knoxville to have it inspected / appraised to make sure that it was the diamond they said it was. It was pretty easy because he just had to match up its registration number (I guess it is etched no the diamond) with the one on the certification. When you go non-certified, you would need an independent appraisal to make sure you are getting the type of dimaond they say you are getting. But, I'm not sure how that would work if it is not registered...if it isn't what they say it is and you try to take it back, they could say you have switched diamonds on them.

I would say that if the 4c's don't mean too much to you or your (soon to be) fiancee, and you find a diamond that looks good to you - then go non-certified. If getting a certain quality diamond is important to you, then you might need to go certified. You can get fairly good deals through some of the online vendors ... you can read up a bit and figure out which ones are the most trusted.

Good stuff man I appreciate it!

My girlfriend's dad's cousin is a jewler so I can use him but still want to research stuff on my own.

I'd go somewhere reputable and pick out something that looks good to your eye. Whatever you do, don't start picking up diamonds staring at them through the microscope to see every little imperfection. You'll just end up spending more money and you'll never know the difference with the naked eye.

Oh I already know she wants the princess cut and all that stuff. I made sure not to get the "wrong" ring because each women has their own picture of their ring so I didn't want to screw that up!!

Yea I'm not going to dinner because I don't think I would be able to eat much or talk much for that matter- I'm not great at hiding things.

But I'm going to take her to the park we went to on our first date and put some rose pedals and stuff like that.

I did take my girl rink looking just to know what she liked and didn't like but I made it clear we weren't "shopping".
