So many dumb comments in here that it isn't even funny. It's the guy's first year. He has terrible roster. Derek freaking Reese is consistently a starter it's so bad. The NCAA is breathing down Tyndall's neck so he can't do anything on the recruiting front. he got a commit from Chris Clarke who was a top 100 recruit. Here's an insane idea: let's give him some time. I've seen way to many comments about firing him. Who would we hire that was worth a damn that would want to come here? Bruce is the only name that comes to mind but he has a huge buyout. So firing donnie would only excerbate the problem. As for the season we obviously overachieved. You can't argue that considering we were picked to finish 13th. We finished tenth with some nice upsets. Here's to hoping things get better and we can enjoy some success in the bball program again.

Well I thought that met expectation is what would win out when I started this thread but I did not think it would be quite as polarizing as it was. Just shows how non unified we are as a fan base. I can see how the recent down trend could go into more did not meet votes but am still very surprised to see how many exceed votes there are out there, especially with what many of us see coming in the future. I want to propose another question/discussion that I will put up when this discussion dies down. Thanks for getting back Volnation, just nice to see where the barometer is on the fan base, no matter how back and forth it swings.

It'll get better. I agree with you, fellow Vol fan also living in SC. I really hated losing to Frank Martin's chickens tonight and I hope our LVs can knock off the girlie cocks tomorrow and wipe the smirks off all those WIS News bumpkins' faces. UT has no natural point guard, no serious outside shooters, nobody who can box out or post up (basically no size or athleticism); CDT's (or anybody's) zone D needs some length and/or super quickness...or better yet both, so when these undersized, overplayed overachievers became totally gassed as this grueling season wore on, they lost some steps and, try as they certinly did, these fellas just didn't have enough in the tank to execute from buzzer to buzzer. Very few D1 teams have so many personnel needs exacerbated with crippling injuries. As earlier stated, the NCAA's curtailing UT's recruiting efforts...'won't allow this situation to reach any sort of conclusion. What can we do? Let's be patient and maintain support for CDT. Donnie ball can make TBA rock again...like we know it can, so here's to pulling in some studly winners and the NCAA getting off their pokey arses. Butch has got the FB Vols in line. Donnie can do the same. GBO!

Pearl got screwed by his own character. You shouldn't have to tell a 50 year old man that lying to the governing body of your profession in an investigation is a bad idea. And he'll get Auburn in hot water at some point too, book it.

Pearl was out of control. There wasn't just the lying to the NCAA about the BBQ but also about 100 impermisable phone calls to recruits, violating the Bump Rule, trying to get recruits and their families to lie about the BBQ, not following the university's drug testing/reporting protocol, and the players getting arrested with the guns were all reported by various sources. TN is lucky to be rid of him, he was an embarassment off the court. The petition was idiotic.

I think I predicted 16 or 17 wins, so about as expected. They played terrible at home and pretty good on the road. I would figured that'd have been opposite.

Spoken like a true defeatist. You pay for a coach and you have a 20k seat arena you expect to win...every year...and make the NCAA...every year. I can't believe you made that post. Absolute hogwash.

This program had its best 6 years under Bruce Pearl, it was a special time for the university. Those years are gone and they aren't coming back. Funny thing is everyone is on CDT a$$, where were you guys the last 3 seasons under CCM when this team had talent and were vastly under achieving.

This team was more interesting to watch than last years team. Tyndall did more with less versus last year where they were doing less with more.
Seriously? Since basketball is a tournament sport, I will have to disagree that no post season tourney is better than a Sweet 16 ( last year's team).

If its a tournament sport why do they play the regular season games? I heard that all last season but it only plays if you don't have season tickets. So many nights the team and the coach looked like they did not care. That was a team with final 4 talent that just barely made the tournament. They were actually extremely lucky in avoiding a 1 seed in the 1st round. This years team played with heart and without talent. I appreciate their effort.

I can hardly contain my laughter at the DT apologists. He was an epic fail. The same people that think he hung the moon are griping about BJ not winning immediately. All Butch has done is resurrect UT football and I see NO foundation for that type of turnaround on the bb team. DT is a fraud, lot's of x and o talk and no substance.

I guess the question should be "Did CDT Meet or exceed expectations?" Considering everything that happen, He did. If the NCAA cloud goes and he can recruit his players, then he should be happy. This team played with a lot of heart in every game. Legs gone and the home issues were atrocious. Not enough horses in the stall to close out games. We had 7-8 games 5 points or less headed or headed to overtime.

Right now we are picking through leftovers and as long as other coach's can use the "show cause" statement then we will have recruiting issues.

I thought he did well considering he was left only 4 players late signing period. We outplayed our talent lever early and with injuries we didn't have the horses or the height to close out some games we could have won. Give him time.

I expected a .500 season at the beginning.
When we beat the Razorbacks and then knocked off 2 consecutive road wins, I thought, WOW these guys just might get it done.
The 3 -10 finish was really a downer.

We have to win one more to meet Donnie's expectations of a winning season.
With the NCAA wielding their subtle and damaging knife, it's unclear what next season will be like.

More of the same, without the D1 caliber players to run his system, he may not have a long future here.
But, I'm the ultimate pessimist.

This team did about as well as it could, given the fact that we did not have a low post presence or a true point guard on the roster.

What surprised me was that this team played so poorly at TBA during the SEC season. They ran into a couple of hot teams in Kentucky and Vanderbilt and I think one of the reasons the team may have played poorly at home is that the players may have been trying to do too much on an individual basis to spark the team and crowd instead of relaxing and letting the game come to them in the natural flow.

I think that UT will be fired up next week for the SEC Tournament and do well.

It depends on on what happens in tournament. We need to beat Vandy to meet my expectations. A second win there would probably put us in NIT and cause me to think we were a little better than expected.

Anybody who knows anything about basketball knows that the postseason is really all that counts.

Since you think CDT exceeded expectations by finishing where expected, how did last year not meet them? We were not even ranked preseason or during the season. There were alot of teams with more talent. This team also has talent. It hasn't always shown up. We have had several home games where we look uninterested and unprepared.

I say until February we were exceeding expectations. The past 5 weeks have brought us down to where we were supposed to be

Now if I'm reading correctly you think there where a lot of teams a lot more talented than we were last year? If I'm reading that correctly I suggest you go back and look at that issue again I think you'll find your way off on that ....

If we're going back to the very beginning of the season...I expected roughly 12-15 games, so yes, they technically met my expectations.

On the other hand, halfway through the season, I was expecting possibly 18-19, so...that 2nd half was pretty damn disappointing, but i kind of blame myself. just got a little too worked up despite knowing that this team, while exceeding expectations in the first half of the season, was not truly a championship caliber team.

overall though, it balanced out to where I believed the team would end up. good thing is that it could have easily ended up worse with all the early injuries we had, but this team gave it their all and put together a somewhat respectable season given the odds they were facing. can't complain too much. looking forward to next season.

I am ok with the end result but lets remember Martins teams would struggle early and thrive late.
Coach T seems to have the opposite issue and its a worse issue to have.
Overall C plus so far

I thought we would finish 9-9 in conference play. At the beginning of the season I thought 17-19 wins overall were possible, and they may still be with the SEC tournament. He met my expectations overall. However, I never thought we would be so bad at home, especially after beating k state and butler there early in the season.
