Emotional state of players for both teams in Mizzou game

BYU won 5 games in a row and came in confident and then they hit the always tough Mizzou D guys.

National stats on the Mizzou D proves they're really tough, again, as usual and them being able to redshirt so many kids every year really has helped them a lot.

Our D is going to have to play very well and hopefully create some turnovers.

Our O is going to have to be 100% focused, play tough and mistake free to put points on the board against their tough D.

I believe we can get the W but it's going to take the same focus and effort we had against UGa and alaBubba.

I'm sorry about their really good coach but his last home game needs to be a L to always remember our Vols!

Let's see...CGP last home game, Seniors last home game, night game at Mizzou. These three emotional factors are worth three TDs.

Okay... that's an idea, I guess. So if they were already going to score 21 total for the game, now they're gonna score 42, because emotions? Damn, wish our players had emotion. Not like they want to win or have NFL aspirations or anything. They're emotionless.

Mizzou is focused and dedicated to Pinkel, a beloved coach, coaching his last home game. It's SR Night and SR leader Hansbrough is back and racking up yards. Lock has six games under his belt and is starting to show confidence and poise. The Vols have played flat and uninspired for the last two games, they're banged up, and winning the SECE is no longer achievable. It's possible that Mizzou wants it more and will play with more heart.

None of it works in our favor.

Well put LA. And that's exactly why if I was a gambling man I would take Mizzou and the points.

If the outcome of the game is in the balance due to emotions on the field, I think we win easily. We have players that had their feeling a hurt by web sites, we have a coach that goes against the chart, because he felt like it. Thank goodness the game will be determined by, better prepared athletes performing in a superior manner. Sometimes talent does win and I look foward to a win.

Go Vols!

He knew he was gone when he made the stand for the players. Yeah, he's got those young men worked up pretty good. Should be a tough game, no doubt, but I think we come out on top even with all the drama. Much better playing on their field than ours anyway...definitely.
Also glad you're female. Helps me get in touch with my feminine side.

GO VOLS!

If I ever got in touch with my feminine side... I'd probably never come out of the bathroom. :eek:hmy:

It's gonna be a tough night for our Vols.

If we can make a couple of explosive plays early in the game, either offensively or defensively, all that emotion in the stadium will deflate and UT will walk away with the game.

I keep wondering who is going to have the hardest time. The mizzou players are going to have a pretty emotional day. The coach and seniors will be playing their last game in their stadium, and they'll be coming off a huge game for them. They need this win more than we do (in terms of bowl eligibility). And they're playing for their coach right now.

For our guys, how will it affect them knowing they're playing a team who is playing for a coach who is fighting cancer? Does it affect them to think about mizzou not getting the win?

It's easy to say just play football, but I think it's going to be hard for both sides to put emotion to the side. (And I realize I'm female and feelings have no place on the field.)

College football is a very emotional sport. It's a big part of momentum. The Missouri players could be emotionally worn out by kickoff. They already played one game with raw emotion...it might be to much to play another.

UT is going to be very motivated to win this game. 0-3 vs Mizzou in the SEC. UT has had 2 games in a row of disappointing offensive performances.

My hope is motivation will balance out emotion and talent will take over.

Mizzou will be playing on more than just emotion. Their D is stout which we already knew. Also, Hansborough (sp?) is healthy and racking up yards which has provided a spark to their offense. Dobbs running the football is the key to our offense. If he can run, it opens everything else up. If Mizzou shuts him down, we lose.

Vols will be ok mentally as long as we focus on our story, rather than theirs.

Story about a team over-hyped early, then trashed by media and fans alike several times through the season. Coach under fire--not on hot seat, but not getting respect either. Same for several players, and the team as a whole. All this two years removed from a losing season (2-6 in SEC), with a chance to finish 8-4 (5-3).

The turnaround, rough and patchy as it has been, remains our story. We focus on that, we'll be fine. Let Mizzou worry about their story.

Think that's how we gotta approach it.
Well said

I think the coach situation and stadium are only half the story, as the team effectively said they would no longer play due to the issues they had recently on campus. This team will be as united as any we have faced, so the Vols need to take the crowd of it early and keep them out. We are good at doing one of those, so can we do the other??

this is just like our game against Ky in 08 when it was CPF's last game. Ky had the better team that year but our team played on emotion carrying Phil on their shoulders when the game was over. If Pinkel doesnt quit this game is ours. Now those Mizz players will play out of their mind for their coach. We're in a bad, bad situation.

Not to mention the 1st home game since the holdout/president resigning. I assume the crows will be fully charged early on. Gotta, hope we make a few,big plays early to quiet them.

3 td's? You can't be serious. Emotion doesn't improve talent. Something Mizzou has little of

Butch preaches to NOT play on emotion. We'll see what works Sat nite. I think if Tenn can avoid a rash of turnovers, they win. If it's a Ala vs Miss type game, all bets are off. Tenn has seemed to be fumbling quite a bit lately.

Here is the problem with emotion. A team can never maintain it for four quarters. And the higher you get, the further you fall when you come back to earth at some point during the game.

The key for UT is to not have turnovers that will help maintain Mizzou's emotion in an elevated place. A first drive touchdown by the Vols would take the air out of the balloon.
