Emmit Gooden out for year with knee injury (confirmed by Pruitt)

Solomon needs to redshirt anyway. To get used to big boy football in the SEC! Let him sit and learn.

No Gooden? Not Badden. We'll be fine.

Garland probably needs to go ahead and transfer. He had to trust his gut!

We've a got a slew of BigMen on the DL. 3 in front and 3 more right behind them.

This is a man's game. And we have many strong men!
Are you all forgetting we've got Darrell Taylor AND Bituli in that front 7?
Next MAN up

Solomon in no way needs to redshirt.

I'm curious as to which game (or games) you had Tennessee winning before this development, but are now convinced that they will lose because of the absence of one player, a defensive tackle, who was a reserve last season?

The reaction to bad news on VolNation can only be described as melodramatic... and 6 posters gave this a "like". Not that it isn't a bad loss... but it's not like Gooden is some game changing run stuffer that teams have to scheme around. Good lord.

I had us winning the 4 OOC games, UK, and Vandy then either Miss St or maybe USCe if we catch them a little beat up.

Now we might drop the BYU game because they are solid in the trenches and we are not. Maybe we still beat Miss St or Vandy but probably not USCe.

Gooden doesn’t have to be Reggie White for there to be an impact. He was the only DL returner with some real experience in an already thin group. He may have been secondary last year but this year he was expected to become a primary player. We don’t have the depth or talent to absorb these losses and just plug someone else in. It’s like losing Brandon Kennedy last year. The impact was felt.

In terms of depth? Yes, it's a loss where we can't afford much attrition. However, I haven't seen much production for Gooden that leads me to believe that there will a discernible drop to the next man up. He had some experience... but even he was not a starter.

So when its confirmed, was your faith "in the man upstairs" misguided?

Someon having faith in the man upstairs is never misguided. If that is what you believe, I feel sorry for your soul. Maybe you were just saying the guy shouldn't assume Gooden wasn't out for the season just because he has faith in God. I hope that is what you meant. =)

Has a torn ACL from practice yesterday. The 247 writers are saying they “Haven’t heard anything concrete yet” and will continue to monitor, which sounds to me like there’s at least something here.

This is a devastating injury, no doubt. Especially considering Gooden is the only DT on the roster with any meaningful playing experience. However, its time for Harris and Emerson to step up. Emerson was a 4 star #1 recruit in the TN two years ago......

Some breakdown of the stats.

This is what CA Vol meant by thin. The DL can be referred to thin even when there are 20 DL's ( not that there are that many). I think CA Vol was meaning the DL was thin on inexperience and thin on proof they can be good/great. If so, he was spot on. I just hope we are all shocked at how well the DL plays this year. We can hope. RIGHT???

I agree with that I just didn't agree with him saying there was "no next man up". Maybe I'm quoting the wrong person on here. I think we had less depth last year and even tho they had tons of experience, they weren't recruited to play in a base 3-4 defense.

At least we’ll have him next year for the trip to Norman and beyond....hoping we can find someone else to eat up blocks and free space for our linebackers.

Sigh. Stop. The “man upstairs” tore that ACL too. It’s ok to hope. Good luck.
