Emily Schubert 6'4"

15 points and 13 rebounds for Schubert is not just dog meat. Look at our 2016 recruiting class of post players, I am sure that Schubert would be the best of the lot. Man up and take a chance, I doubt if this young lady would be any worse than when Moore came to our program. On the twins Holly is once again slow on the trigger. Anyone think that maybe Holly knows Dolley about judging talent but just how to count number of stars?

Sounds like a Dooley post. We can not move forward taking chances like that if we want to compete for Championships.

Since we now have six scholarships to give don't see any reason not to give her a shot if she wants it to play at Tennessee. I don't know much about her league but she puts up good numbers and her team is undefeated.

It is a desperation move but we are in desperate times for post player depth. Next year we are just looking for someone who could give a few minutes and have some fouls to give. Championships are a distant memory and we are now in survival mode.

Tall doesn't make you a BB player...Geno's starting lineup: 5'7" -- 6' --6'4" --6'2" and 5'11".

we already havethat type of size and even taller.

No folks, it's about coaching... Not about height

I don't think rebecca lobo was a 5 star out of hs.

Rebecca Lobo was very highly recruited out of high school... She set the high school scoring record for males or females in Massachusetts.... A coach shouldn't recruit based on stars but how good they think an individual player can be and so far no major schools or even mid majors think Schubert will make a good college player.

if your opponent has tall posts, you need tall posts. going into battle with midgets only works in fairy tales. there hasn't been a "short" Nc team since Texas A&M with DAdams in the post and she was huge in the body to make up for lack of height.

A player that could make an immediate impact for Tennessee is Cheridine Green juco player 6'3" tall averaging 22 points and 14 rebounds shooting 57 percent from the field and 77 percent from the line. She lays for Asa a junior college in New York. I am sure she has a lot of interest in that part of the country doubt she would be interested in Tennessee as no one seems to be these days. Still hopefully Holly and crew have checked in with her and are at least seeing if there is interest.

She also has a 6'4" teammate Mary Cuevas that is averaging 12 points and 11 rebounds shooting 53 percent and could help us also.

Another player in juco is 6'0 Jhanice Stokes who is averaging 14 points and 14 rebounds per game shooting around 60 percent from the field and 75 from the line.
These two players can play and would certainly help our team next season.

Looking at her vid clips, she would be another "project" player. It is true that the team has scholarships to give and in the old days, the LVs could easily afford to bring in some players like that because of the overall strength of the team-- project players had to rise to the level or just never play. Sid Spencer is probably one of the better success stories. Though she had a tremendous athletic upside, Izzy Harrison was another project player.

In terms of athletic ability, ES seems closer and maybe a notch below Spencer with no where near the athletic upside of Harrison.

But the problem is that right now, the LVs have a team of "project" players who need a lot of development to compete at an elite level. Some have tremendous athletic upsides, like Cooper, Jackson, and I would include Carter and Jordan (who are getting late in their college careers); one who has some shooting skills but needs on all other facets of the game (Dunbar); some are moving along the development curve (Middleton and Russell) but are not quite there yet.

I think this weird mix is also contributing to some of Diamond's woes but she has to get better in terms of reading the game.

It is fair to point out that this state of player development is also a mark against the coaches.

All in all, my opinion bringing in a project player like Schubert is not likely to work out that well for the team or her. I would rather the see the LVs gamble their chips on players with higher athletic upsides.

Are you the same madtown who posted on Summitt for years ?
I agree that the team can not afford another project player but they sure need some size for the low post.

Hi Alexvol,

Yes, the same. I left the Summitt when they went to a pay-to-play board. Philosophically, I think the web should be open access, particularly when posters are providing the majority of the content. If there is enough traffic, which I believe the Summitt had, ad revenue should be more than sufficient to cover the basic costs.

I believe she has upside to her good hands OK mobility long . but I really hop we get two post players over 6'3 to light a fire under russel to atleast make her compete because she knows she is starting

If we were going to bring in a project player then we needed to have done it before now. Whoever we get will have to play a lot next year so there won't really be a season for them to develop. They will need to hit the ground running.

That is the problem does Holly have enough sense to recruit this player? We know that she would be a good addition, however, does Holly realize this? It appears that this young lady would be potentially a better signee than a lot of JC players and she is in our backyard.

No matter how many post we sign, until we come up with an outside shooter that force teams out of a zone flex, we are still in offensive trouble. It would also help if Russell became stronger in the upper body and turned into an aggressive nightmare for teams that played the Lady Vols. There has to be a young Lady some where that has the ability to play defense and shot the three. We are way too predictable.
Look I'm an alum of Elizabethton High School (aka Elizabethtown). Maybe she will help but I think she will be more like the girl from Knoxville that ended up transferring out. Just don't know if she could withstand the rigors of Div.1 basketball. I do know that Holly has been here giving her a look.

While Bashaara Graves had a difficult sophomore season, I don't think that is any doubt that she has improved since her freshman season.

Also on the current roster, although not a senior, Jaime Nared has shown significant improvement, in my opinion, since her freshman season.

No one can suggest that Izzy Harrison didn't show vast improvement from her freshman season as a foul magnet to her All-American final season.

Cierra Burdick is another who showed significant improvement during her four year tenure. Granted, she had a tendency to disappear during really big games, but that alone can't be used to say she didn't show significant improvement.

Another who has shown improvement just in this year is Mercedes Russell, again although not a senior. Does she still make silly mistakes? Yes, but I don't think anyone would deny that she is playing better this year than during her freshman season and also better at this point in the season than she was at the beginning of the season.

This staff has developed, and is capable of developing, individual players. What they seem inept at is developing a basketball team. Even though Holly acknowledged right before the game that this team needed to keep an "attacking" frame of mind for four quarters, it was apparent that the team took their collective foot off the gas late in the third quarter and into the fourth. Fortunately, at least on this occasion, they were able to re-position that foot and close out the game! I doubt they will be so fortunate against a team like South Carolina or Georgia.

Jim
I think Massengill improved too

Emily Schubert The Elizabethon Lady Cyclones’ 6-foot-4 post player committed to Duke on Sunday. The Lady Blue Devils are an ACC powerhouse program.

I'm not at all upset about Schubert for two reasons. If we can get Nunn that totally replaces Graves and gives us a chance to recruit higher ranked bigs in the 2017 class. If for any reason we blow 2017 then and only then will it look bad.

You need to fix it again. The women's basketball team at Duke is called the "Blue Devils." Same as the men. They are not called the "Lady Blue Devils."

irony is thick on this one......

How? Let's look at a comparison:

Records in last four years:

Holly: 108-34 (76%), 50-14 (78%)
JPM: 104-33 (76%), 48-18 (73%)

Conference Championships
Holly: 2013 RS, 2014 SECT, 2015 RS
JPM: 2013 RS, 2013 ACCT

NCAA Tournaments
Holly: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016
JPM: 2013, 2014, 2015

Sweet 16
Holly: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016
JPM: 2013, 2015

Elite 8
Holly: 2013, 2015, 2016
JPM: 2013

MCDAA
Holly: 7
JPM: 13

Top 5 Recruiting Classes:
Holly: 1
JPM: 3

JPM has clearly brought in more AAs than Holly, but has done much less with that talent.
