I'm glad she decided to allow you to watch football.

Alright so as we all know, UT's opener is this saturday against UT-Martin. Well my girlfriend is a competitive cheerleader and she has competitions until April. Well it wouldnt be so bad if ALL her competitions werent on Saturdays. I told her UT plays on saturdays so im not sure if i can attend them. She got mad and said i need to lose my Tennessee addiction. Any advice? Its awful! :banghead2:

Cut her loose, nothing get's between me and football season (College & Pro).

The fact that you even asked this question makes me question your Volness.

The question isn't whether or not to keep going to/watching Vol games, the question is how to tell her. :) Gotta frame it in terms of how having individual hobbies benefits the relationship so that she doesn't go all "football is more important than me?!?!?!" Sounds like he did alright.

You have to do what is right for you, man.

I have seen guys try to control other guys, and shame them into losing good relationships. However, it IS true that if you let her control your every move now, don't expect it to get better later.

So, make sure you are fair, but let her know where you stand NOW, not later. The longer you wait, the worse it gets.

This is the worst advice I've ever heard. Just allow your friends on VN to take care of you. Fight all the urges to think for yourself. We will take you under our wing and train in the ways of man.

So.....since I AM a girlfriend of a VERY serious VOLS fan...here's my advice:

Compromise.

My EX husband was a big college football player...so I've gotten used to having the Saturday/Sunday/Monday thing dedicated to football. And I knew going into my current relationship that the VOLS were especially a big part of not only his family's life(alumn) but his life.

Now...onto the compromise part. (Though I am a bit bias because I love football anyways and miss Eric Berry)

I know there are some games that just can't be missed....Bama, Florida...etc... the big games. But if the VOLS are playing one of the lesser teams, so to speak, AND it's an AWAY game(he has season tickets) He knows better than to deter from plans we could
make. lol ( and yes I know enough now to put on the calendar game days we can and can't miss or getaway)

She should understand that being a VOLS fan, you just can't miss those games. As for the "eh" games, then I'd say, support her at her competitions. This way you give a little and she gives a little. I mean football season is only until November....after that, you'll have the next 5 months of eye candy competitions to support her talents. Vols fans wait, what it seems like forever for the season to start and then it's done before you know it.

Plain and simple....she either get's it or doesn't. She just has to accept that, yes, even though it is only game, it's something that's a part of you. And honestly, if she loves ya, she manage.

xoxo Brianna
