Embracing UT's Traditions

I'd be willing to bet I've been a Vol longer than you've been alive and I've got three degrees from the University. I like the traditions, but really what's been lost here? The Maxims still got read. We showed recruits some clips of the USC players Kiffin coordinated into the highest scoring offense of all time. Good grief.

Do you honestly think he gave a crap about anything to do with Tennessee other than his paycheck? I don't. I didn't have a problem with him showing clips of players he had worked with. I do have a big problem with him thinking everything to do with the Volunteer way was a joke. In fairness I dont really "know" if he felt that way or not. I am just going on what's been reported. I am glad he is gone. I hope Dooley can do well. At least he is trying to do it our way.

And? You're acting like he defecated on Neyland's grave. Dooley is a smart guy. He's also not a UT guy. But, he's smart enough to know that based on how his predecessor has gotten railed, he needs to really ingratiate himself to the fanbase. It's kind of naive to think Dooley isn't worried about his paycheck.

How does Fulmer get a pass on the "thug" issue?

Fulmer brought in some straight up idiots that didn't last very long either.

Not saying Kiffin didn't, just wondering why Fulmer seems immune to it.

That is one of the reasons I'm glad he is gone. I never understood that either. Look I know kids will be kids but is to much to ask for them to not be armed robbers, shoplifters and general miscreants.

Not at all. But at least they got the boot. And I believe both those guys were Kiffin's last minute additions to the class. So, perhaps in the future they'd be a bit better. It's sort of like how everyone is claiming Dooley's recruits will make their grades to play ball, but his first crop isn't doing so well in that regard and it's quite likely due to him being rushed to sign guys.

Who Fulmer or Kiffin?

Fulmer had shoplifter and general miscreants a plenty.

Look up Nilo Silvan or Dorian Davis or Lamarcus Coker or James Banks or Demetrice Morley or well you get the point.

I will say this for Kiffin.

A whole lot of people in and around the program considered Kiffin a much more strict disciplinarian than Fulmer. Kiffin and crew ran a pretty tight ship in how they handled off the field issues. Ask Mike Edwards or Richardson or Abrams-Ward.

That is harsh, I don't know what I ever said that would come off like defecating on Neylands grave. I said He didn't give a crap about anything to do with the Vol way other than his paycheck. Dooley is not a UT guy, but I do believe he respects and sincerely cares about our traditions. I am not naive I understand it's a job to him. I also believe that he wants to be a Vol.

I sure hope if he turns out to be a bad ass that UGA doesn't offer him.

Both. I do think Kiffin tried to improve discipline. But it was like he was sending a mixed message. Sometimes it seemed like he was encouraging a bad boy image to recruits and then wanting them to behave like good boys when they got here.

Those are good points. But I wasn't just referring to Kiffin. I was also including Fulmer in that.

Stop worrying about Dooley and Georgia, LSU or any other place. He is where he wants to be. He just has to win, and he will. Patience!

I'm sure Montario would disagree.

It's kind of sad that people refuse to believe that Kiffin, while he is a POS human being, did do some pretty good work with the offense here.

Saying he did good things with Crompton and Hardesty does not mean you like him or respect him.

I'm on record as saying as much in regards to Kiffin, but IMO all he had to do was call Hardesty's number and he did the rest. Hell, Fulmer forgot he was on the team, yet when he did get in he still ran with that reckless abandon that made him so special. I guess I just give the nod to the player....

I still don't know whether CDD can coach as much as a single down of good football at UT.

But, I am clearly impressed with what I perceive to be a high degree of integrity and honor.

However, like most things, time will tell.

I was watching the sugar vols DVD the other day and I don't know if they sing it anymore but after the Alabama win in '85 the sang "I don't give a damn about the whole state if Alabama, we're from Tennessee" I loved hearing that they need to bring that back
